For knowing a little of her history we can see the "Saint Cecilia´s marriage certificates" which say that she belonged to a patrician roman family and she was educated in the christianism. Her parents married her with a patrician pagan who, in the same night of the wedding, the girlfriend let know him that she has surrended to God.
This means that she kept the virginity for God, and she also said him that she was kept by and angel.
The surprised boyfriend wanted to see the angel, and Cecilia persuaded him to get baptized for seing the angel, and he did it.
We don´t know exactly when did she live, but especialists place her marriage between the year 177 and the half of the IV century, hard times in Rome for the christians and they were indiced to die.
In the case of Cecilia, first they tried to drown her with the steam in the terms of her house.
Later, they called a executioner for cutting her head, the history tells us that the executioner let fall his axe above her three times without killing her, so he runned away leaving her bloody, even alive, but she was injured and she died three days later. That is why in some artworks she is represented with a cut in the neck, like the sculpture made in marble around 1600 from Stefano Maderno (1576-1636), it is in the church of Saint Cecilia, in Rome, where  supposedly her remains rest.
In many paintings she appears between musical instruments, commonly playing an organ.

One theory is that she was internally singing to God, while musicians were playing music in her wedding, agreed by her parents, but it is an insufficient explanation.
In 1594 the pope Gregorio XIII sainted her and he gived her oficially the designation of patroness of music, for having demostrated an irresistible attraction to the melodic chords of instruments.
The twenty second of November "day of her birthday or the day of her death" was adopted by many countries like the Day of Music.
According to the orchestra conductor and the history of music teacher, Jesús Ignacio Pérez-Perazzo says if she could play some instrument or not:
Firstly, belonging to a patrician roman family and according to their costumes and traditions, Cecilia played some type of instrument, probably the lyre, the zither, or some type of harp used by the women of the roman society.
¿Why does she appear in many pictures playing the organ? Because a traduction error of the word organ that by the third century meant a type of bellow.
