It is known to be one of the most biodiverse places in the world while it also considered the "lungs" of the earth. This is because the Amazon exchanges about 5% of the global carbon emissions which is considerably a lot (2 billion tons of carbon gas). However, the Amazon has been in rough situations because of human impacts, in this case it is deforestation for agricultural purposes. The results of deforestation and slash and burn techniques have reduced the available habitats/resources for species that live in the Amazon. There are currently many popular species that are endangered such as the jaguar, macaws, and spider monkeys.
