This shows that JFK was a supporter but not a strong supporter because he only solved a few small issues of segregation instead of solving all of it because he supported the movement entirely.

We must have a good FEPC bill.” John Lewis supported the original Civil Rights Act, but felt these things needed to be done as well.

If we do not get meaningful legislation out of this Congress, the time will come when we will not confine our march into Washington. We will march through the South, through the streets of Jackson, through the streets of Danville, through the streets of Cambridge, through the streets of Birmingham.” The bill will not support blacks by being meaningful, if the legeslation is passed at all for them.
