1-1 images are important becuase htey allow you to determine what size the object is, for example a shoe print, which will allow you to identify the shoe, and potentially identify anybody involved in a crime. From the following image, you can see that the shoe print measures at 335 mm x 125 mm, whcih is consistent with a size 12 shoe.
It is ideal that 1-1 images are taken using a macro lens, as these are already 'formatted' to turn out as a 1-1 sized image ( the image appears the same size as the object itself). This therefore can also be used for taking photos of fingerprints, as it not only allows you to get the relevent details in the image, but it also allows you to have all fimages of fingerprints in the database the same size. This will then allow you to compare the fingerprints found to fingerprints on the database accurately becuase they are the same size.
We had a few issues when taking our images that may have resluted in our shoe size esstimation being incorrect

On the day of the crime scene, DLSR cameras were not used as our phone cameras produced better quality images than the cameras available to us. This however meant that we had no control over the camera settings that were actually used. If we were using DSLR cameras, then the settings I would have used are the following :

ISO- The ISO I would have used would be between 200 and 500 as having it lower than this They would appear over exposed, however it you put it higher than this then it may appear blurry and under exposed.
APERTURE- For this i would have used f/8 as this would have been enough to create a greater depth of field, however becuase it was a brighter overcast day, any higher than this would make the images appear over exposed.
SHUTTER SPEED- A shutter speed of 1/25 would have been used as this is long enough to let enough light in, however not too long as to create a blur of any moving objects, for example, anything potentailly blowing in the wind. You would want quite a fast shutter speed, except then you might not let in enough light to be able to see what is in the image. If you wanted to do this for a windy day, for example, when you need to take an image that would not create any blur, you could increase the ISO in order to increase the exposure and then potentially use editing software to sharpen the image if any blur is created as a result of doing that.

Another thing we would have used, which would have been helpful, even when using a phone camera, is a tripod and a macro lens. This is becuase it could have been used for taking imagestrace evidence ( small pieces of evidence that could otherwise be overlooked) and the tripod would have aided in keeping the camera steady when doing so

This kind of image manipulation cannot be used becuase I have completely changed the way the bruise looks. I did not change the contrast, instead I isolated the briuse and inserted different colours to add to the area that were not on the original image to make the bruise look worse that it appears in the original image. You can only change the image as a whole, and you cannot change small sections of the image.
