Once inside he hands out their journals. This acts as another invitation to the students to interact with Simmons. Once all the journals are handed out, guess what? He takes role. Then journals left in his hand are students that are absent. The journals also record key terms and dates that Simmons has recorded on the blackboard. They are allowed to use the journals when they are taking tests. I do not like that cell phones (disguised as technology) are a seemingly constant student distraction in the majority of the classrooms that I have visited. I am however, a big big fan of GOOGLE! Which used at the right time and used for the right reasons will be a great resource during my educational voyage through the next several years, as well as for my students. During one of my "hunts" for information I found this awesome do-hicky! I hope that you all can use it and that you enjoy as well.
