for at det er tilladt for en muslim at spise kød fra et dyr, skal dyret halal-slagtes. ( lovligslagtning)
Halspulsåren skal skæres over, mens Allah navn udtales over det, således at alt blod skal løbe fra dyret, og det må ikke være en hedning, der slagtes dyret.

reglerne er mindre specifikke end i de andre religioner og knytter sig til en af de fem forskrifter, som en fos buddhisme skal leve efter.
