Selfridges uses product placement firstly by placing all the most expensive luxury brands on the bottom floor and in the widows so when people walk down the street they can see all the nice clothes through the window . Also with the expensive clothes, watches, aftershaves being on the bottom floor you have to walk past them to go to the cheaper clothes on the other floors. It will drive sales because the expensive clothes will catch the peoples eyes because they want the best of the best so they can show people their wealth. Furthermore it will maximise sales with the luxury clothes because there easy to get too and their near the tills.

Complementary is used at Selfridges because the shoppers are encouraged to buy the whole collection. For example the shoes, belt and bag. They use this because people want to wear the matching set. When they have purchased the collection they flaunt their products on social media because they care about how they look online.

Selfridges uses colour blocking by colour coding their products so the different shades of clothes are together. They do this because it makes there products look organised and slick, the same colours packed together catches the customers eye. Furthermore if somebody has come into the shop knowing what they want they can go to the brand then look for the colour they can find easily. Also they can also see the different colours the product can come in. Clothe segmentation like this gets lots of attention from the media because people take photos and share them on Facebook etc. This drives sales because the people on social media see how the products look so this attracts them to the shop.

Selfridges uses mannequins to show off their collections of clothes, this attracts customers to buy the outfit/tracksuit shoes etc. This maximises the sales because people walk past and it catches their eye, this makes them want to buy the whole outfit because they think it looks nice on a mannequin so they know it would look good on them. Even if customers are not specifically shopping for the particular product they could see it and like it. Also mannequins are usually elevated so you can see the products displayed from across the shop. This leads to impulse purchases as customers could see products they like however the wernt necessarily looking for the product

IKEA uses forced wanderings because they have a 1 way system around the shop, this means if you want a glass, you will have to walk around the whole shop before you get to the glass section. This is good because the shoppers have a change at looking at the wide range of products that IKEA sell, for example kitchens, bathrooms. Other products could attract their eye meaning IKEA will make revenue. Also IKEA have a restaurant so people sit down mid shop, this leaves discussion so customers may speak about a product they like so they might go back to buy the product. This could also lead to impulse purchases as customers have to walk through the full shop before they reach the product they were looking for. Therefore they could see another product they like whilst walking around the store.
