The Black Plague was one of the most devastating time in this period, there was many deaths estimated from 75 to 200 million people in Eurasia and a little into Europe from 1347 to 1351. This is believed to have spread through the silk road and merchant ships. Most of the people in these ships were dead. The rest of the people on the ship were very ill. People were covered in black boils that oozed blood and pus and that is how the black death got the name.

People would have black boils on them that oozed pus and blood. This is cause by a disease called yersinia pestis. This comes from wild rodents where they live in big numbers. These rodents had fleas and when the fleas bit somebody they became infected with this disease. This disease killed 60 percent of Florence's population.

Could the Plague be cured

At this time when the Plague first struck doctors had no idea what this was or what to do with it. The doctors did not know what caused it either. This disease killed people fast because they did not know what is was or what was giving them this disease. There was never really a cure for this but there was a cure for the symptoms. Headaches were relieved by rose, lavender, sage, and bay. Sickness or nausea was treated with wormwood, mint, and balm. Lung problems with liquorice and comfrey. Vinegar was believed to kill the disease.

Plague doctors were hired by cities themselves. They were in the absence of medical school or documentation. The masks that the doctors wore were air fresheners because they believed that the disease came from the foul scents. They were not even good doctors. 18 doctors attended to the city of Venice. Only 1 remained and five died, 12 were missing.
