The theory of continental drift is the theory where there used to be a big giant continent around 200 million years ago, it was called Pangaea and it was big so the theory is that when time went by the supergiant continent started drifting apart, they drifted apart so much that now that there are different continents and not 1 anymore. There are more continents now and this may be because of the motion of the tectonic plates like South America and Africa, these continents look like they could fit like a puzzle which is a big suspicion already. Furthermore, there are also pieces of evidence that back up the theory like fossils of animals that are the same being but in different places that are separated and the ancient animal lived in the seawater not salty ocean so that is big evidence. There is also the paleoclimate which is also big evidence that indicates that there used to be a big supergiant continent. There is also evidence of rock types that are also evidence of continental drift.

Theory of Continental drift happened many years ago, around 245 million years ago. Continental drift is basically continents being carried away from one place to another. It was only one continent long time ago which was called he Pangea, but after that Continents started drifting away which we have 7 continents. There was a German geologist who thought the shape of South America and Africa can fit like a puzzle which his name was Alfred Wegener. So he started to do some research about 4 things. The first thing was about the shape, second the fossil correlation, third is the rock correlation and last but not the least, past climate. The research Alfred did is that, Fossils of Mesosaurus was found in South America, as well as the southern Africa. How could the same type of living thing could be there at the same time, but different location? But if South America and Africa was connected, it is possible. And so, Alfred found different evidence based on different things.

In my words, I think that continental drift is a theory where all land on earth used to be a giant supercontinent but somehow got separated and drifted apart somehow. There are 4 pieces of evidence of continental drift that were discovered by Alfred Weigner. Evidence 1: The fossils of the same species in 2 different places. Alfred found the remains of dinosaurs that lived in freshwater in 2 places that are separated from one another. Knowing that they lived in freshwater made it impossible to think that they would swim through the salty water to get to a different land. Evidence 2: Alfred Weigner researched and found that glacial marks were left behind in places that are too close to the equator to even have glaciers. This theory made it clear to him that those places used to be closer to the poles than it is today. Evidence 3: Geological marks. He found out that some places have the same mountain types and ages in 2 different places separated by the ocean. He said that the mountains could be created at the same time but in different places which would be unlikely. Evidence 4: Materials like a special type of coal that is made from plants were found throughout the entirety of the Earth, but those type of plants only thrive in hot humid areas which tells him that those places that had those special coal used to be close to the equator before it got separated.

Furthermore, from what I know, continental drift is a theory where Alfred claimed that the continents are moving/drifting. He also claimed that millions of years ago, there is one big continent which he called Pangea. On the other hand, there are four main pieces of evidence that Alfred Wegener uses to support his theory (continental drift). Those includes:
- The apparent fit of the earth which is basically the shape of the continent together, Alfred claimed that the shape seems to fit each other. For instance, South America and Africa.
- Fossil correlation (evidence of life). This is because in his research, Alfred noticed that there are the same types of fossils are over the world.
- Rock and mountain correlation. He claimed that the rocks and mountain were formed at the same time and place but drift to a faraway place.
- Paleoclimate data. In his research, he found that there are geological marks in different countries.
In conclusion, these are my knowledge of the continental drift theory.

Continental drift describes how the world's continents may have moved over time from a whole single landmass named Pangaea ( all the earth translated from ancient greek ), this theory is most associated with the scientist Alfred Wegener in 1912. in order to back up this theory of his, he came up with 4 main pieces of evidence, he first started off with how the coastline of South America can be perfectly put together with southern Africa's coastline, secondly, he have done research and discoveries that the fossils of the ancient reptile mesosaurus (freshwater reptile) were only found in the two places southern Africa and South America, they are only one meter long and could not have swum the Atlantic ocean. not only animal fossils, wegener also studied plant fossils, as proof that some plants that were found around the area that the plants are not adapted to survive in the arctic climate, those fossils were of tropical plants which are adapted to a much warmer or more humid environment, this shows that the area should have had a tropical climate, lastly, Wegener studied the difference of rocks and mountain ranges, somehow the east coast of south America and the west coast of Africa seem to fit together like a piece of the puzzle, and discovered their rock layers even fit just as clear, not only America and Africa have similar geology, many other places also have such discoveries. Pangaea existed about 240 million years ago, about 200 million years ago, Pangaea began breaking up and over millions of years, it has been separated into pieces which make how the world is currently. it took around 50 years for this theory of Alfred Wegener to be accepted, one of the reasons was difficult to work out how whole continents are able to move and break. today, the theory of continental drift has been replaced by the science of "plate tectonics"
