Proclamation Line of 1763 -------------->

After the French Indian War, the king of Great Britain set the Proclamation Line of 1763. This line limited the expansion of colonies and this outraged colonists which could be seen as a beginning of the outrage that caused the revolution. This event is a slow speed sign to the revolution because the people were very excited and slowly after this law they gained a sense of rage.

After the Proclamation Line came the Stamp Act 2 years later. This act like the Proclamation Line, caused more frustration from the colonists. A tax on all paper products and stamps sent colonists into more rage which is why it is another green light to the revolution.

After the Tea Act, a tax on tea imported into the US, the colonists were outraged. To protest, colonists threw tons of English tea into the harbor costing them huge sums of money. Both sides were now in rage with each other. I see this part of the process as a yield sign because they are both anticipating and waiting to see what the other side will do.

These laws were meant to punish the people of Massachusetts and the rest of the colonies because of the Boston Tea Party. These laws were meant to show the rest of the colonies to not do anything like they did in Massachusetts. This would be another green light to the revolution because all it did was anger the patriotic people of Massachusetts.

Olive Branch Petition

After a year of thinking about it, the colonists issue the Olive Branch Petition. This petition pushed the idea of the colonies being loyal to Britain but King George III did not respond to it and claimed the colonies were already rebellious. It was a last ditch effort by the colonists to avoid war. This event is a stop sign because the colonists stopped for a minute and realized their chances are slim against one of the strongest armies in the world.

Met on sept. 5, 1774. They met to discuss how the colonies are going to react to the intolerable acts. The biggest accomplishment was the boycott of British goods in the colony until Britain rescinded the intolerable acts. This event would be a yield sign because the people of the colonies had to stop and think about how they were going to move forward like a yield sign.

2nd Continental Congress

They formed an army in the colonies and met to write the declaration of independence to declare to Britain. They also appointed generals and generally tried to prepare for the war as the underdog to Britain. This is definitely a yield sign because the colonies had to slow down and prepare for what they were about to get into.

During the 2nd Continental Congress, the colonies wrote the Declaration of Independence. The declaration cuts off all colonial ties to Britain and declared war. This event was a green light right to because this is the document representing how badly at this point the colonies want to be Independent.

Battle of Trenton

Washington's army went on a raid along the Delaware River. They easily defeated the Germans that were helping the British out on the war. This was a small yet crucial battle for the colonist army. I see this event as a green light to independence because they demolished the Hessian army and gained a lot of momentum going forward.

Battle of Saratoga

This battle is a HUGE turning point for the colonies in their fight to defeat the British. Winning this fight caused common British rivals to realize that the colonists could win with their help. After this battle, the French, Spanish, and Dutch joined colonial side. This event is 100% a green light to independence because the help of other colonies and the pivotal win allows them to push forward very strong.

French Alliance

After the Battle of Saratoga, the French wanted to help the American side win the war. They teamed up with the colonists and offered supplies and money in order to help the colonies win the war. This event is what the colonists needed to ensure a much greater chance of victory so therefore it is a green light.

Treaty of Paris 1783

Final Destination : Independence
After all of the events of the war and the events leading up to the war this is what the colonists wanted. The treaty permitted them as their own nation and granted them lots of western territory. This was the final destination of the Unit 2 roadmap, but also a yield sign because now the victors of war have to figure out how to run their country without the much bigger Britain ruling it for them.
