What is a boycott? How did this play a role in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics? Who hosted and who would not come?

A boycott is a ban that limits you to who you can be around, this picture shows the USSR and the US separated during the Olympics. This played a role because many actions were staged to create a protest against the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan. The USSR hosted the 1980 Olympics but the allies eventually boycotted the 1984 Olympics.

What are 3 ways the Olympics created a competition between the USSR and the US?

This caused a huge power struggle because both the USSR and US wanted to beat the other and prove their worth. This also caused stress because they wanted to spread democracy and communism so this made them want to win even more to influence others. Lastly this affected their pride and created competition because when one lost the other would feel weaker, therefore damaging their pride.

What 3 comparisons could be made in the Cold War Olympics to the present day Olympics?

The non violent battle between the USSR and the US can be compared to present day with COVID-19 because COVID-19 caused damage to our world without causing violence. This also can be compared to sport games because the people in the games are not trying to cause violence just using good sportsmanship. Finally this relates to present day because people still try to spread their own beliefs to this day.
