When we focus exclusively on making good grades, we contribute to problems later in life with the need for affirmation for everything. After the schooling is over, we don't tend to get grades anymore; so how are we supposed to maintain our motivation? So we need to instill in our students the understanding that it's the LEARNING and the GROWTH that is more important than the grades.

Praising effort is effective, but it is not complete. The process is important but results still matter. Empty or hollow praise doesn't support student growth. Ideally students are encouraged to rework and grow; they are given chances to change or improve over time. Teachers will not be always in a growth or fixed mindset. They may move between mindsets and feel perceived threats from other teachers, colleagues, parents, etc.
