My name derives from the word argyros, meaning silver (cf Latin argentum, from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂erǵ- [formerly reconstructed as *arǵ-], meaning "white" or "shining").
As in many other countries/cultures in Greece too, where we are still quite traditional when it comes to certain things, our parents choose, or, in a way, are forced to bestow upon us the name of our grandparents when we are baptized. It is considered a gesture of respect, honor, and love towards their parents.

My name is Adriana. It’s a name of Latin origin, it means inhabitant of Hadria. Now Adria is a small town near Venezia in the Veneto, region of northern Italy but in ancient times it was such a famous center that it gave its name to the Adriatic sea.
I was born in the southern Italy and in our culture it’s customary to give children the same name as their grandparents as an inheritance but my grandmother did not want me to inherit her destiny and so the tradition was not respected.

My name is Thilo. The meaning of my name is "ruler of the people". Maybe my parents dreamed of a career as a politician :-), but I let them down. I was born near Siegen, about 100km between Cologne and Frankfurt. I think, in Germany some parents chose a name paying attention to the meaning (not my parents..), others look for a name in the top10-lists to follow the mainstream, some give their children the name of the grandparents, because some of these old names become popular again.

Hello, my name means Messanger....the Angels being one of the Christian God's ways to communicate with humans. In particular my name recalls the Guardian Angels, those that protect individuals from evil. As in many cases in Italian families, I bear my grandfather's name, but that's only part of the story.....more when we meet...
Last but not least I am glad about the meaning of my name because as a teacher I do like to convey messages....not God's messages but cultural messages.....and finally my name is quite international and I am so glad about that too!
