Two days later on September 3, France and Britain declared war on Germany, beginning WWII. The Nazis causing havoc on Polish livelihood through ensuring its public to resist all things Polish, boosting support in creating a government after killing tens of thousands of soldiers.

Soviets capture Poland

Effect:

Faced repression as part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact formed by Germany and The Soviet Union. The share of Poland allowed the Soviet Union to establish a communist agenda, while deporting deemed enemies, officers, and the free smart willed people in order to suppress any possible backlash from the Poles culture, language, and shared identity.

Effect:

Lithuania and Latvia dealt with mass deportations, harsh living conditions, and the loss of cultural identity. Like the Soviet Union was operating in Poland, the "enemies" of the USSR in Lithuania and Latvia were sent to the Gulag and imposing strict measures to eliminate any form of resisting aggression.

Finland surrenders

Effect: A large sum of Finland's territory was forcibly surrendered for the Soviets to build naval bases. Many refugees had to be resettled in new areas which caused xenophobia new structure of Finland's politics. Because of this fight and non-peaceful combat, the Soviet Union was booted out of the League of Nations.

Hitler captures Denmark and Norway

Effect: This capture was part of Operation Weserübung which gave Germany supply routes for strategy. They also formed air and naval bases in order to be positioned in striking in Britain. Denmark and Norway were controlled under the administration of a German Reich Commissar, with a more "tamed" Germany in letting Danish and Norwegians join in power as a start.

Nazis conquer Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg

Effect: Nazis reach the French coast enforcing anti-semitic laws, causing massive suffering while positioning closer to the Western Front. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg all had resistant communities after being placed under German infiltrated administration and forced labor.

France surrenders after 6 weeks into fighting

Effect: Germany was able to occupy France in a quick surprising amount of time, leaving Britain all alone as the only nation surrendered by the sea and enemies. This advance and major risk to Brit's livelihood led to the Dunkirk evacuation. Moreover, France's fort border, the Maginot Line, completely fell due to Germany's surprise Belgium crossing.

Germany planned to invade Britain with air attacks

Effect: This ed Nazi Germany to use the strategy of the Luftwaffe. Its RAF (Royal Air Force) defended the skies of Britain which led to Germany switching their strategy to bombing cities instead of military bases, making Chruchill's victory promise, in full delivery.

The Battle of Britain continues on in full swing with Germany's strategic error in its air force

Effect: Hitler calls off the attack, showing his advances could be blocked by RAF. Germany lost 2,500 airmen, while launching a campaign dubbed the "Blitz" in order to lead to a Britain surrender and remove the victory morale. Effect: Hitler's takeover in the Soviet Union, i.e Operation Barbarossa, remains as the largest and deadliest battle in Germany's scramble in pushing eastward. While Operation Barbarossa had initial success in postponing the Soviet's campaign and pushing full steam, the harsh winter weather scattered Germany backwards into a loss.

The Siege of Leningrad

Effect: An immeasurable amount of deaths, mass suffering, and damage inflicted by Hitler during this siege. Due to Stalin's refusal to back down, this ordeal held out for about 2 and half years altering the lives of Soviets to a deathly extent. Costing the lives of 1.5 million civilians from all disease, the cold, bombing, and a twisted mental state caused by how life became for them (i.e. mass cannibalism).

The Battle of Moscow begins

Effect: Hitlers grave mistake of underestimating the Soviet's Red Army led to massive setbacks and casualties from both sides after they were able to defend their capital, Moscow. The public dealt with riots, starvation, and a saved city in ruins. Germany being the "dominant top dog" planning its Blitzkrieg strategy to sweep up a victory not achievable in sight.

The Battle of Stalingrad begins

Effect: The most important Battle of the entire year, arguably the most magnificent war of all in history. This Battle marked as the start of the fall of Germany's victories as they start to recede slowly and surely after facing many deaths and desperation to maintained its lead against the Allies.

Nazis captured the city but are surrounded and forced to surrender

Effect: Germany fought using its Sixth Army, while the Soviets captured approximately 300,000 soldiers. This left a cut of essential supplies both for livelihood and for fighting, with these captured men dying Russian Prison camps (I.e the Gulag, etc). This began as the start of pushing the Nazis back as it was becoming cornered by the Allied powers. Germany no longer can proceed eastward.

Japan invaded China, conquered Beijing and Nanjing

Effect: The tens of thousands raped and killed by this time paved the way to the Nanjing massacre later in the year. This invasion came at a massive economic loss to the Chinese, raising xenophobic tensions and superiority. This raised the stakes for leading U.S. involvement later on.

Japan took French Indochina, consisting of the countries Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos

Effect: The U.S. responded by cutting off oil shipments to Japan. Moreover, this takeover by the Japanese gave way to the boot of the French's rule on Indochina. Before the surrender of Japan, Cambodia and Laos were essentially "puppet states", leading to heavy political instability.

This diversion gave the Allied powers significant loss, before a takeover after 8 months of fighting.

British General Bernard Montgomery stopped the Axis advance at the Battle of El Alamein in Egypt.

Effect: This victory of the Allies prevented the Axis threat of Middle East/Northern Africa to continue any further as they were pushed back up, preventing Erwin Rommel from obtaining resources which intervened with any doable action in favor of its aggression.

Americans stop Japanese advance heading southward

Effect: Port Moresby, a port for the Allied powers was safe after the initial Japanese threat. However, Americans suffered through much more losses all-round in this Battle of the Coral Sea in This major push back of Japan, preventing Japanese carries in partaking in the Battle of Midway.

U.S. destroys Japans naval fleet, forcing a retreat

Effect: Japan lost four aircraft carriers putting an end to Japanese Pacific conquest, making way for the U.S. to shift into an offensive position as Japan cripples, boosting morale for the Allies.

U.S. fought to destroy Japanese Air Base

Effect: This marked the end for Japanese invasion down-south, however both sides suffered through losses. Japan lost 31,000 men, 683 aircraft and 38 ships. The Allied sank through 615 aircraft, 29 ships, and 7,100 casualties (not the same as the Japanese death loss). This proved the "island hopping" strategy to work, bringing a new framework of the war.

Operation Overlord dubbed "D-Day" occurred and American troops stormed the beaches in Normandy, France

Effect: The Vichy regime of France were exiled to Germany, as part of fully liberating France from any authoritarian government. Authorities in Belgium were also re-established with the absence of King Leopold III. While over in Luxembourg, they and Belgium signed to the Benelux Agreement to integrate them more into Western Europe. These political shifts came after Germany's complete decent.

The last German Offensive took place across the borders of France, Belgium and Luxembourg in means of going for the last shot.

Effect: Germany lost all morale, man-power, and offensive power and unconditionally lost. Because of this last "all or for nothing" shot, the Germans lost 120,000 soldiers while the Allies lost 75,000. Still a huge toll regardless leading to the final stretch of Nazi loss.

Hitler can not stand his unconditional beat-down defeat, and commits suicide in shame and disgrace while Soviets surround Berlin

Effect: The Germans felt the guilt as footage broadcast to publicly humiliate Germany. The Leadership of the Reich passed to Admiral Karl Dönitz. Other European nations joyfully took this knowledge in without a second thought. Not everyone was rejoicing however, as the ones who aligned themselves under the Nazi propaganda mourned this loss of this political mainstream figure that changed the landscape of Germany (economically, socially, etc).

The city of Berlin falls as all sectors of life completely destroyed, as Soviet forces gave the fallen Nazi the taste of their own medicine when they themselves surrendered in harsh brutality in WWI

Effect: The total collapse of Berlin led to four divisions occupied by U.S., Britain, France, and the Soviet Union all collectively running their own political objectives. Many women faced a great deal of rape with widespread terror on civilians.

Germany officially surrenders with no where left to run or shoot. This remarks as V-E Day (Victory in Europe)

Effect: Widespread celebrations took place as all of Allied Europe and beyond took it on the streets to salute the perished and living. The world's powers flipped and the lack of security was felt by all since no one could foresee the rebuilding and stabilization efforts. However, Japan continued to fight along the pacific as they took, overlooked their demise coming at all corners from being pushed back to their homeland (the same cornering Germany faced until they were defeated).

Allies move to retake the Philippines and fight the Battle of Leyte Gulf

Effect: The Japanese navy was completely busted and no longer in effect. Because of this desperation, Japan used kamikaze (suicide pilots) to wreck U.S. navy ships knowing that they explode and die. 420,000 Japanese casualties and 23313 U.S. troops and sailor casualties combines. This undeniably demonstrates an Allied win in pushing Japan back.

American forces captured IwoJima

Effect: This capture allowed the U.S. to strategize its bombing scheme against Japan, while building a base for this fighters and air landing. This Battle involved killing 22,000 Japanese soldiers and sailors and 6,800 killed for the U.S. in the process. Taking place over 36 days, the capture of IwoJima symbolized victory as seen in the Marines flag raising.

American troops took Okinawa as well

Effect: This capture sadly took the lives of up close to 150,000 civilians living in Okinawa, while the U.S. faced 49,00 casualties. This bloody battle came at a strategic importance, as likewise to the bases and bombing planning in IwoJima, this was also to be used as landing stripes for the atomic bombs. The U.S.'s military presence still lingered, changing how the civilians felt about the military and the west as a whole, causing tensions.

The U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima

Effect: 75,000 die quickly due to immediate exposure, while thousands more die to radiation. Cancers and other diseases onto these victims that also led to their death. Moreover, the entire city became fallen pieces of rubble with no access to water, public service, and resources. Globally, everyone observed these devastating effects, in which nuclear bombs have been heavily discouraged.

The U.S. two days later dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki

Effect: This detonated bomb killed 70,000 at impact, and fire came about due to the dry materials. Likewise to the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, many chronic health diseases led to long term impacts of the city. Japan was left with nothing, after the mass killing of its people, and ultimately had nothing left but to surrender.

Hitler plans to invade Soviet Union—takes Yugoslavia, Greece

Effect: More than 67,000 Jews in Yugoslavia and 40,000 Jews in Greece were killed while the Royal Yugoslav Army collapsed. The Luftwaffe of Germany proved to be successful at this time in taking 222,000 Greek and 20,000 British soldiers as being "prisoners of war", however, Germany's resources were spread across and they couldn't meet Operation Barbarossa, delaying the invasion of the Soviet Union.

Japan officially surrendered, marking the complete end of WWII

Effect: After officially surrendering, the U.S. began to occupy and become the administration of Japan for 7 years during the years (1945-1942). The Japanese weren't left with its values and military rights, as new constitutions drafted enforcing Japan to no longer have rights as an offensive, but a defense force in military while they lost all their overseas territories. Many things from its economy, international relations, and culture attitude in its society towards the U.S. and within themselves slowly shifted.

Hitler Invades France

Effect: A new French government was termed, Vichy France, enforcing the political change of France's political ecosystem. Alsace and Lorraine also endured change as both were annexed. Many Anti-Jewish policies were imposed during the time an uprising of French resistance started to sprout (erupted is a better word).
