Throughout my lifetime my taste in music has been influenced by my friends and family. I get my love for the 80’s from my dad, I remember him always telling me he didn’t understand what was being said but he loved the beat and feelings the music brought. My love for Latin music comes from my mom, I’ve always been a momma’s girl so I always found comfort and a closer connection to her when I listened to the same music as her. My sisters introduced me to Korean music, which honestly I have recently started liking now that I’m away at college and rarely see them. My friends, well they introduced me to pop, rock, alternative, and so much more! However Jazz is the one type of music I was never really introduced to, nobody ever really helped me find a deeper connection to it so it’s the type of music I really don’t care too much about. Personally I feel the only way I will ever truly connect and listen to jazz is if I were to meet someone who loves jazz.

I've never really connected with jazz music as much as I have with other genres of music. To me jazz just doesn't have anything that's attention grabbing or that pulls you in, not to say the music isn't good it just isn't for me. Jazz is the genre that I picture being listened to with older generations, and maybe a genre that will die off as time goes by.

I've always been told I'm a very emotional person, I love without boundaries so my feelings are always all over the place. Many of the songs I listen to often reflect this, A Call To Arms is the perfect example of this. Laura Jansen talks about a love that to me reflects a love without condition, even when the one giving the love is aware there love may not be fully appreciated. The soft slow music is something I like to associate with a tender and pure love, honestly I might just be over-reading everything but when listening to this song that's what I visualize.

Every girl, even if we don't admit it, has their "I'm the sh*t" song and for me it's Guys my Age by Hey Violet. Honestly the biggest reason I love this song so much is because I associate with my ex, he was a year older than me yet acted like a hormonal 14 year old (something I realized most guys still do) teenage boy. This song basically just voiced my opinion, if you want to be loved right then you're probably needing someone older (or more mature at least). This song honestly boosted up my confidence after my breakup and made me realize that our relationship needs were extremely different, I wanted something going towards a more serious, mature path and that's something I had to look for in a more mature partner.

Remember how I mentioned my taste in music is based off people and the connection I have with them? I had the biggest crush on this boy and like any normal teenage girl I decided I had to get his attention somehow, I decided to do everything I could to learn about his favorite band Five Finger Death Punch and to my surprise I ended up falling in love with their music! I feel that this shows you just how far my jump from genre to genre can go, I went from calm lovey dovey music to (somewhat) screamo. Wash it All Away is one of my favorite songs because the lyrics and how it reflects how I feel at times there's so many moments where I feel as if I'm drowning and I continue to ask for help but no one seems to hear or see my struggle. So what started off as a need to impress my crush turned into me finding a new genre of music to explore

I felt that this was the perfect example of jazz music that I can't really picture myself listening to. To me there's just little to no interest in jazz music, the music is often great and showcases crazy talent but it just doesn't catch my attention
