         <description><![CDATA[<div>I like the point that each type of assessment has its place in the classroom depending on what you want to assess.  For example, for math you may want to use quantitative has a math problem generally has only one correct answer, where as for ELA you might want to assess using a qualitative assessment such as an easy to see what the students know about a topic.</div>]]></description>

         <title>I think it is important to have a balance of linear quantitative assessments for subjects such as math, which was mentioned in the article. As well as to have them for other subjects too. However, I think there needs to be a balance with quantitative data as well. I have seen this first hand working in educational research. You need to be able to have an overall picture of the student and their capabilities to truly assess them as an individual. I personally prefer, even though it is more time consuming to do more quantitative type projects as I feel my students get more life long lessons out of it and I get to know them as a person too. Again, I&#39;m a person who feels very strongly about building great and long lasting relationships. With qualitative assessments it affords endless possibilities to understanding your students, their perspectives and many times I learn new things from them this way as well.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I agree  that you need to use both types of assessments based on the goal of the assessment.  If you are looking for absolute answers then create a quantitative assessment.  However, if you want to allow students to explain more in depth the concepts/skills, then qualitative assessments are more appropriate.  Both assessments serve a purpose and will provide a better monitor of student progress in the subject area. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Quantitative refers to measurable focus on the number of right and wrong answers.  It comes in the form of multiple choice or fill in the blank.  While Qualitative assessments are more subjected and do not focus on the numbers.   Essay writing would be a form of a qualitative test or assessment.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe a mixture of both should be used across the curriculum.  Our opinion and explanatory essays are definitely qualitative, while ISMs are quantitative.  At times a good qualitative question in math is used when asking the student to explain.  A balance is good.</div>]]></description>

Quantitative assessments, although quick to grade, doesn't allow for that higher level of learning that we prefer to see.
