I chose this picture because plants are what keep us alive in the society aspect and allow us to continue to reproduce and keep life cycles to go on. Plants keep humans and all other living creatures alive by providing oxygen, food, medicine, and energy. They keep our planet going, they enrich the soil, provide the oxygen all creatures need to survive, they provide materials for structures: such as homes, beds, boats, lumber for fire to stay warm, or to cook food. They provide food for the animals that humans consume, or that other animals also consume. Plants are what keep our world going and allow it to thrive, not only for the oxygen and the beauty but the resources as well.

I chose this video because it simplified photosynthesis for me more than others did. I struggled with this unit trying to decipher the differences in photosynthesis and cellular respiration and this really helped me comprehend what I could not. I now understand that photosynthesis requires the sun and take in CO2 and H20, while producing glucose and then releasing O2 as a waste product as well. I really appreciate how this video was slowed down and made to be more descriptive into the process of photosynthesis! Hopefully it will help others who see this post.

The land plant type that was chosen was an angiosperm. I found a plant only native in Georgia, and only found in two counties located in the coastal plains. The plant is known as Hairy Rattleweed, or even as Hairy Wild Indigo. The true name for this particular plant is Baptisia arachnifera, and it is a perennial plant. It is also endangered due to being taken over by pine tree growth in southeast Georgia.

Originally, I believed the rainforest would have been the biome in the most danger economically, but now I believe it would be the grasslands. Trees grow back, and so do plants, typically, so there is a chance of the rainforest reviving. There is only so much land that can be taken over for farming and crops. Once all of the nutrients are taken from the soil, people go on to the next bit that is left. With how many crops are grown in the country, I truly believe that grasslands would be in the most danger. What will happen once all of the land is used up? Can the soil eventually replenish itself and be used again? I find that to be fearful for our future economy and for our future crops.

Though the neolithic agriculture is how we have our agriculture today, were many issues with it in the beginning. The civilizations began to breed animals in close proximity to the people of the civilizations, and also grow crops close to them as well. This causes death and disease to spread throughout the people groups. Water also got ridden with disease, because of defecation of the humans. The jaw structure other these people also changed over thousands of years, which actually led to a higher possibility of over crowding of the teeth and also periodontal diseases, because of the high likely hood of bacteria being more prominent in the crowded teeth.

The third agricultural revolution also known as the green revolution caused of huge outbreak in the rescue of starvation and also caused the loss of jobs in farmers. GMO's also known as genetically modified organisms became one of these innovations that made a huge difference in the growth of crops. GMO's and genetic engineering increased the crop yield across countries. Though, there are many controversies of whether or not GMO products today are healthy or toxic to the body through scientific research.

Diosgenin is the plant chemical that I see as very important. Not only can it be chemically changed into progesterone for birth controls who hormone leveling medications. It can also be used synthetically as cortisone. Imagine what oral contraceptives would be like today if unable to chemically recreate progesterone. Would there be a higher population or another substance to recreate that hormone?

I chose this picture for the possibility of the over use of land, and the damage it can cause to it. Of course massive amounts of pollution is another way the Earth would be effected if these practices went unchecked. If the land is overused it can lead to desertification, also if it is overgrazed by the use of animals, it can lead to that as well. With the proper use of tilling, using composts, using a mix of different crops, and rotating around land that is used over seasons will help with the longevity of the land used. I am fearful for the future could lead to if protective measures are not taken.
