(Routon & Walker, 2016) Continuing with the same study, fraternity members are roughly “11 percentage points more likely than their non-Greek fellow students to frequently imbibe wine and liquor” which sorority members being roughly “8 percentage points”. (Routon & Walker, 2016) These numbers are relatively high once again when you look at the overall conception of alcohol during a quarter or semester. A study done by Routon & Walker in 2016 found that, “fraternities spend 1.9 hours per week…more than non-Greeks partying” and sororities spend about “1.1 hour” more. Another study found that, "'drinking practices frequently reflect the customs and standards of the cultural group.”’ (Barry, 2007). In fact, they do significantly more community service on average than their non greek counterparts. The type of community service can range from small things like helping out at the humane society to much more difficult tasks like farm work or other labor intensive activities. Pictured here are two members of the Greek community helping out at Relay for Life. a very common and popular community service event. Most participants said they chose this event because its one of the easiest to be a part of. The requirements for it are minimal; Set up a base camp for your organization and help out if an event coordinator asks you too. With the sample taking form over 400 institutions in the United States, the data collected is a realist representation of how GPA’s compare. Greek membership for males “appears to result in a statistically lower GPA difference of −0.05 points” when compared to non-Greek members (Routon & Walker , 2014) For female Greek members, however, there is no difference in GPA points when compared. This being said, (Routon & Walker , 2014) do state that “the overall academic effect of Greek membership on females appears to be positive.” Along with that they say that Greek affiliated students are more likely “to graduate on time and more likely to aspire to a graduate degree” after they finishes their undergraduate degrees. These DJ mixes stem from the early culture of Hip-Hop record mixing and scratching. When DJs first started becoming popular, they were simply spinning and scratching different vinyl records on turntables making for great songs to dance and party to. It's been taught to us from day one, that academics is why we're here. It is required that every residential chapter maintain a house average GPA of 2.9 for each semester. In spring of 2016, the fraternities and sororities managed to pull off an average of 3.08, whereas the entire campus managed a 2.97. Proving to the outside world that we're more than just partying is vital to the continuation of greek life on all campuses across the nation. Pushing yourself every day of the week to finish your work will open up opportunities for you to take the whole weekend off and relax. Once your school work is done, you will pass up on future stress you may face on Saturday and Sunday nights. Study hard and play harder. LROB stands for the Lifetime Responsibility of Brotherhood. It is a manual that aims to tackle issues of growing up, being a man, and succeeding in school and the workplace. Drawing from a pool of thousands of students and alumni gives us members an extensive amount of knowledge and wisdom in nearly every aspect of improving yourself and becoming the best you can be. A large portion of the manual explains the advantages and benefits of fraternalism. Some characteristics of the system that help members better themselves in all parts of life includes chapters on Individuality (chapter 15 p. 143), Diversity (chapter 20 p. 177), and Career Achievement (chapter 23 p.187). Each chapter brings perspective to what each term means to the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon and allows every member a chance to be critical of ideals.
