And if the weather would have been sunny the reader wouldn't have felt the emotions that Sundara was feeling.
2. This literary device is a simile because it is comparing two things and it uses the word "like". Life is like a road/river means that you can change your path so that you can go on a fast paced path or a slow paced path but, at the end of the road/river you are going to end at the same place.
3. The type of figurative language is a hyperbole because she is clearly exaggerating. The exaggeration makes her words more powerful because if she would have just said she was going to cry for a minute we wouldn't feel that bad for her.

The weather contributes to the mood of the chapter by reflecting Sundara's attitude of sadness and vulnerability by matching it with an equally sad and depressed mood of the storm over the wet bleachers aside the soggy football field. This mirrors her thoughts of Chamroeun and Mayouri, whom both stayed in Cambodia and are now dead or thought to be dead by Sundara. If the weather was different, say sunny and clear-skied, the story may have taken the course of Jonathan attempting to reassure through physical activity. This could be started by Jonathan saying " Lets take a walk", or something of that nature.

2. The difference is that if the mood was all rainbows and buterflys the chapter would not have been such a boring chapter to read. Also it wouldn't be so gloomy and dark if they would have put something to make it all happy.

2. It is a simily. " Life is like a road " means that you can take diffrent paths in life and you might take diffrent turns in life. But " Life is like a river " means that you might drift off into diffrent paths.

1. The weather affects the mood of this chapter because, we think that just like colors, just like weather. Dark and gloomy makes us feel sad, sunny weather makes us feel happier on the inside. If the weather were different I think it would make us feel good on the inside, like when Sundara went on the date with Jonathan in chapter 9.
2.Life is like a river/ life is like a river is a simile. Both sayings connect to each other because they both show that they have ups and downs in the journey. They are different because the Cambodians say that life is like a river they want to steer into a good path. The Americans say life is like a road because life has some low and high peaks, just like when roads have bumps in the roads.
3.

1. The weather affects the mood of this chapter because the weather is grey it's raining which usually singles you to be like well this is a sad day. Which usually in books makes the reader sad or in the grey area. Also if the weather was different like all sunny and shiny well that wouldn't make the reader feel like Sundara is feeling the reader would be all happy and be like well this is a nice day.

2. The literary device is a Simile because it's using the word like to compare two things to each other. Life is like a road says that it has bumps cracks and obstacles but in the end it gets you somewhere. I think that this means that once you are born you are on that road and that every challenge you face or every problem you face or punishment you get would be those bumps and cracks in the road. I think the part where it says that in the end it gets you somewhere means that no matter what you life ether ends up in a bad place or a happy place. Also I think that life is like a river means that and it sates this in the book that

3. I think that it's hyperbole because it's exaggeration and I bet she has cried once since she got to America and she thinks she'll never stop which also is an exaggeration. Also it makes her words

He had recently past away while in the Thirteenth chapter. Sundara's mom also said in this book, "Someone must have died last week." This topic that was foreboding. Also, each rain can have a gloom to it, like a nice and peaceful rain, or rain that experiences death
2. Life is like a road/Life is like a river, each one is metaphor, they both mean, each have and easier but have a higher chance of casualties along the way. Each has a specific route, you can either take the shallow end or the deep and fast current, not easy to control. I would often take the deep end to have a better trip.
3."Jonatan, I start to cry, I think I maybe never stop." Also, when sundara is happy and feels ready for anything its sunny and clear out with a nice breeze. So when Sundara finds out chameroun died and thats the reason its dark and mirroring Sundaras feelings and emotions.

2. This is a simile showing how both a river and a road both go on paths that go in different directions and one thing leads to the next and you will end up in a situation that is a result of something you did previously in life. and the difference is that a river that flows easily and at some points its rough and tough to get through just like life. While a road, there is a lot of curves and veering off path and rough patches that weren't made so well and the same thing goes for life and these similes are just physically different not so much metaphorically

3.

1. The weather affects the chapter because the rain adds to dark and gloomy day.
2. Life is like a road means that you can change and influence where your going to go, which way to turn and how fast or slow your going to go. Life is like river means that the river is going to take you to somewhere in the end. You can choose to go through the rapids and the fast waters and of the waterfall or stay clear. Both of these are similes.
3. The exaggeration means that if Sundera starts to cry then she will never be able to stop means that if she starts to think about Chamroeun and the other people she lost in Cambodia she won't be able to stop. The figurative language is a hyperbole because it is a very clear exaggeration. This exaggeration makes her words for powerful because if she said I might cry for a minute that wouldn't mean that much.

1. The weather is reflective in this chapter because in chapter 13 we found out that Chamroeun had died back in Cambodia. The weather is really bad it is rainy and dark outside it's DISMAL out. Ran is also most times a OMEN for sad or dreary. Sundara talks a lot about Chamroeun in this chapter and how good of a person he was.
2. The quote "Life is like a road/life is like a river" symbolizes that life has ups and downs and can get bumpy throughout. The difference in Americans saying life is like a road but to Cambodians life is like a river is that "on a river we try to steer a good course, but all the time we getting swept along by a force greater than ourselves. Meanwhile, on a road you can go anywhere you choose.
3. I think its a Hyberbole If Sundara would have worded her last statement in this chapter different

1. The weather effects the mood of this chapter because it affects the mood of Sundra. It's also making the chapter down and sad. The weather is making this chapter sad, unlike the other chapters like when she went on her date with Jonathon.

2. Life is like a road means that you can influence and change where you are going at any certain time, change which way you turn and how slow or fast you go. Life is like a river is going to take you down a bumpy path that could take you places you might now want to go. The literary device is a simile, because it used the work "like".

3. The type of figurative language is a hyperbole because Sundara is exaggerating. The exaggeration made her words more powerful than she might have intended for them to be. Because if she would have said "I might cry for a little bit" it wouldn't mean as much.
