"Every Song Ever" by Ben Ratliff was enjoyable to me. I enjoyed that he broke music down into parts, he took the things that we most likely already do when listening to music, and looked further into them. He implored us to look further into them as well, giving name to techniques that many already utilize when listening to music. My favorite aspect was the way that the titles were written, as well as the examples that were includes so if you did not fully understand what he was trying to convey, you could listen to the songs and connect it yourself. I did not like his writing style. He rambled, very difficult to follow, not good at conveying his thoughts. I often found that i would read a chapter and then have to listen to the song and define the music element by myself. It has changed how i listen to music. Now I look and listen for many of the musical elements that Ratliff explained in his book.

"Maybe what we are waiting for we might slangily call perfection" (Ratliff 227). I felt that this quote was important not just to chapter 20 the perfect note, but the theme of the book overall. In this last chapter Ratliff really brings together the book in discuss the most sought after thing in music, the perfect moment.

"In music, nothing is perfect, unique, or exclusive" (Ratliff 227) This connects to chapter 20, and the book overall. It calls for the realization that while we wait for the perfect moment, that may be found using one of the elements mentioned in the book. There is no such thing, because music is not perfect. And while that perfect moment may come though, it by no means means that music is perfect.
