My journey about my writing has came natural. I am not very good at writing but I love to write if that makes any sense. I express a lot about my personal life when writing. I scraped by in school, I have not been in high school since 2006, that's when I graduated. My childhood was not all rainbows and butterflies, I never really had a support system growing up. School was simply for hanging out with my friends and escaping reality, possibly that's why I loved it. I remember being in third grade, and my favorite elementary teacher, Mrs. Reinhart. She had grey hair was tall and skinny, and about 50 years old. This teacher had a soft, calming voice so whenever she spoke everyone listened. She was well respected by many. One day she gave each of her classmates, including me, a journal to write in daily. We got to choose what we wrote about, and sometimes my writing would be silly monster pictures I drew because I had writers block. She expressed to us how much it helped her to cope with life changes and she wanted to pass it on. From that point on, that is when I started my writing skills. The power of writing became my norm. Anything that effected me went straight into that journal. Lets just say she learned a lot about my life that year.
Jumping ahead now that I am in college, college has brought a new light to me about writing. Back in high school I recall taking a creative writing class and I was able to express things more in depth then. I don't recall writing a lot in elementary or middle school or learning about the different writing essays. I struggled with that for years. Writing was never a huge part of my life, until I hit more of adult years. And even now I second guess myself on my writing. Truth is I was more fascinated with art and creativity therefore; I spent most my time painting and drawing and listening to music when I was younger. Music led me to write when I was sad, happy, upset and frustrated, but I would write during the negatives of my life. Depending on the type of music I listened to, it reflected on how my writing turned out. Strange isn't it? Journaling growing up was a way to let my mind escape reality and be at ease. Now I write complete stories and try for more positive ones.

My first essay was clearly not enough words. I needed 500 words, but for some reason I only used 421 words. I shorted myself. This being my first reflection submission I caught my own mistake. I will try to type up more next time.

Amber Summers
Amy Doty
ENGL1010
29, October 2018

Writer's Reflection

This assignment is based on a position paper, we had to pick a society issue that was important to us. I chose domestic violence. I knew right away this was the topic I wanted due to personal experience and my knowledge on the subject. a lot came to mind when writing my essay 3 more than the other two papers.

I simple wrote this position paper from personal knowledge about myself and others and there was not much of a process. I typed out my first draft then I got it revised with the writing center and typed out my second paper. I received no feedback or anything so did not have much to go off of, but I did make some changes on my paper with spelling errors and eliminated some sentences that did not make sense.

Most my writing is effective and an example is I included what I have observed from others on domestic violence situations and how it effects these people long-term. These are effective in my writing because I can make the paper come to life with experience alone and it proposes why I am so strong on the topic.

In my paper to be improved would be maybe adding more reasonings why I believe what I believe and making an argument based on the actual information. To push this proposal I need to have a good reasoning why this issue needs to be addressed the way I would like to see it addressed and those who argue why it would not be purposeful.

My purpose is to impact others and know how serious it is for some. I want my readers to know domestic violence is not a joke and it is not ok. I wanted this paper to really open someone's eyes on the seriousness of the topic. I included a detailed story about domestic violence from a lady I knew, it was so personal. I'm hoping that it hits home for some and saves lives.

I have a lot of knowledge on it.. nothing else came to mind or a change of heart in the process. Domestic violence is something I strongly believe needs to change in our world.

I simple wrote this position paper from personal knowledge about myself and others and there was not much of a process. My argument is to pursue school, certain jobs and political parties including government officials to allow mandatory workshops and classrooms everywhere to push the domestic violence education and important tactics with abuse. Making more awareness around the world.
