On the lefthand side of the journal, keep track of quotes or paraphrases of the story.  Make sure to also provide the context of each.  On the righthand side of the journal, make an inference about that word, phrase, or sentence.  Make sure to also provide commentary as to HOW this word/phrase/sentence contributes to the tone.
