Galileo, Galilei (1564-1642), often considered the father of modern science was known for his knowledge and observations in astronomy.

Through his life Galileo invented and developed many things such his renowned modification on the telescope when he created a lense which magnified the telescope views by over 20 times. Through his astronomical observations he discovered the four moons which circle Jupiter (Galilean moons) and the orbiting of Earth around the sun.

In 1591 Galileo supposedly dropped two steel balls of the same material but different mass from the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy. The results of this experiment led to the law of constant acceleration. Galileo was also famous for the pendulum clock and his help in the advancing of the scientific method.

On January 8th 1642, Galileo Galilei left behind a fulfilled and perpetual legacy. Galileo’s experiments, findings and observations led to the analysis of classical mechanics which was used to build new ideas by men like Isaac Newton. His heliocentrism theories revolutionised astronomy and biology today.

A key component of the telescope is the objective lense, which is found on the ends of the two horizontal rods. The eye lense is on the opposite end of the hollow rods. The advanced (objective) lense can increase the magnification by 8 times which played a crucial part in the future of astronomy during the renaissance, since previous telescopes could only magnify the view by 3 times.

Later that same year Galileo invented a telescope that could magnify objects by 20 times.
