For too long, have China and the US argued about something we seemingly figured out decades ago. The debate subject is the piece of China’s land known as Taiwan, and whether its demands for independence should be met. This is becoming a more and more chaotic conflict because the US has decided to interfere and take the side of Taiwan. Today, I will break down this conflict, and also discuss what must happen to solve this conflict.

Before we get into anything else, I would like to clarify that Taiwan is still undoubtedly a part of China. It only claimed it had independence after losing the Chinese Civil War, previously being called the Republic of China. Even though they lost the war, instead of accepting defeat and going back to their peaceful lives, they made the radical decision of moving over to the region known as Taiwan, then claimed they were their own country, and named themselves after the island they inhabited. Then they claimed that we belonged to them, even though they lost the war about deciding that. What a bunch of sore losers. They have since not been able to come to terms with them still being part of China. We have tried everything to get them to stop lying to themselves and admit there is still only one China, but they simply won’t accept that fact. The debate lasts to this day, and it is starting to progress into another conflict deciding who gets to be a country; us, or them.

Next, we will discuss why the US should stop interfering with this debate and making it worse. First off, this is a debate within a country that other countries aren’t meant to be included in. Out of all nations, the US should know this especially. Not only has the US had a civil conflict of its own, but the last time it interfered with a civil conflict, AKA the Vietnam War, tens of thousands of people and soldiers died. They should have learned from this mistake and known not to stick themselves into a conflict that they have nothing to do with. In 1979, when they made the One China policy, it only heated up the debate because both China and Taiwan believed it referred to them being One China. The US has only made this argument worse and is driving it into a war inside of China, which it has also claimed it would join. The US needs to forget about ever doing anything about this conflict, and just leave us alone to figure it out ourselves.

Finally, I must discuss a more recent event that occurred. It was when Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan as if it was its own country. This was a very large signal stating that the US believed Taiwan to be its own nation and Ms. Pelosi did it as if there was nothing wrong with it. We started preparing for a war that was seeming increasingly likely to happen, and at the same time, we decided to try and lower those chances through simple intimidation tactics. When we merely started military exercises and dropped a few bombs that weren’t even that close to Taiwan, they accused us of escalating the conflict, just after inviting over a US Senator as if it was separate from us and could do whatever it wanted. Taiwan is clearly using dirty, underhanded tactics to make it seem like we’re in the wrong, acting as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated by China, so if it comes to it, this conflict may escalate into an all-out war.

All in all, Taiwan refuses to accept that it is still part of China, and the US needs to leave this civil conflict alone. This is between China and ‘Taiwan’, it must stay away because it is only making matters worse. This conflict needs to be solved peacefully, we can’t stoop to the low of going to war with ourselves. We must stand strong against these hard times, and fight for upholding China’s greatness. We must do this with all the love and care possible, but we still must be prepared to take up arms against our brothers and sisters for the greater good.

The relationship between China and Taiwan has been a sensitive issue for decades. The two countries have been at odds since 1949, when the Chinese Civil War ended with the Communist Party victorious and the nationalist Kuomintang Party fled to Taiwan. The issue of Taiwan's sovereignty has been a point of tension ever since, with China considering it a part of its territory and Taiwan insisting on its independence. In recent years, the United States has been supplying Taiwan with weapons and military support, much to the dismay of China. China has consistently viewed the US’s support for Taiwan as a violation of its sovereignty, and any attempt to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait is considered a "red line" that China will not tolerate.

The latest arms sale, which was approved by the US in October 2020, includes advanced missile systems, sensors, and artillery, which are intended to enhance Taiwan's ability to defend itself against any potential aggression from China. This move has been met with strong opposition from China, with officials warning of serious consequences for the US if it does not stop such activities. China sees the US's support for Taiwan as a threat to its national security and regional stability. It believes that by arming Taiwan, the US is interfering in China's internal affairs and attempting to contain its rise as a global power.

China has also accused the US of violating the "One China Policy," which recognizes Beijing as the only legitimate government of China and Taiwan as a part of its territory. Moreover, China has increased its military presence in the Taiwan Strait in response to the US arms sales. In conclusion, the US's arms sales to Taiwan continue to be a major source of tension between China and the US. China views the US's support for Taiwan as a violation of its sovereignty and a threat to its national security, while the US sees it as a necessary measure to maintain regional stability and promote democracy. The situation in the Taiwan Strait remains a delicate and volatile one, and any misstep by either side could lead to a dangerous escalation of tensions.

For almost a century, Taiwan and China have been having small conflicts against each other including one large, full-scale civil war 1927-1949. Taiwan, also known as the Republic of China (ROC) had to retreat from mainland China onto the formerly Japanese island of Formosa (now Taiwan) after being defeated by China aka the People's Republic of China (PRC). The Chinese civil war caused long-standing tensions between the PRC and ROC who both claim to be the real China.

We, the United States of America (USA), And China (PRC) have had good trade relations for a long time and they are each other's biggest trade partners. They both contribute to each other majorly and if one were to stop trading it would impact the other one massively. Recently, in 2022, the US Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, visited Taiwan on a state visit and shook hands with the president of Taiwan. By doing this China thought that that meant that the US viewed Taiwan as the real China. So to retaliate against that China shelled waters around Taiwan while Nancy Pelosi was visiting and shot missiles over Taiwan. Recently the US has also banned the export of Chips and chip-making materials to China to stop the Chinese semiconductor industry from developing quickly. If China were to go to war with Taiwan the US will most likely supply Taiwan with weapons and artillery as Taiwan contributes to 60% of the world's semiconductors (used in almost all electronics and vehicles) and it makes 90% of the advanced semiconductors. Taiwan also shares very similar values to the US and is a leading democratic country with strong people-to-people ties with the US. Another reason for the US to support Taiwan is that Taiwan is a substantially important ally in the Indo-Pacific region and could help the US in many scenarios and situations.

Overall, if China were to go to war with Taiwan it would affect the US strongly as on the one hand China is our biggest trade partner but on the other hand, Taiwan trades us the semiconductors used in all vehicles, planes, smartphones, and other electronics. The US would probably end up siding with Taiwan as they have more important trade and the trade from China could be replaced. Overall this potential war should try to be avoided as there are no positive outcomes whatsoever.

In 1979, the United States made a clear commitment in the China-U.S. Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations. It has now become quite clear that the one-china policy is not something to be tangled with, it’s a “universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm in international relations”. Despite all of this, Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, visited China’s Taiwan region. This is a serious violation of the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués. China is very much against this and thinks it violates China’s control. And still, the U.S. strengthens its relationship with Taiwan, sending more and more military assurance to Taiwan. In addition, In China’s opinion, the U.S. is using Taiwan to contain China. This is what they are doing, it’s the most logical thing to do, the U.S. must contain China before they become the most powerful. Just to make one thing clear, Taiwan non-negotiably belongs to China, and an oversimplified version of what China is saying is, “Taiwan belongs to China, don’t stand in our way”. They will take any measures to reunify Taiwan with the motherland. In the Taiwan Strait, there are tensions due to the relations and exchanges between the U.S. and Taiwan. Furthermore, Taiwan and the U.S. still refuse the 1992 consensus. As said earlier, China thinks that the U.S. and Taiwan are containing China, which, as I also mentioned, is the most logical thing to do, but it obscures the one-China principle. The right way for China and the US to deal with each other is in peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China, in other words, the U.S. should mind its own business. We are not seeking to change China’s system, and we are just trying to avoid a cold war.

Over many years the US has maintained a mutually beneficial friendship with Taiwan that has proven to be indispensable. This friendship has mainly grown due to the Taiwan Relations Act; this act made it so the US can supply Taiwan with the weapons and resources it needs. This act also ties into the One-China policy because we also claim that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the only China and Taiwan is not a part of that. The US also claims that we will back Taiwan if China ever does attack.

This alliance with Taiwan has been incredibly wise and useful. Right now Taiwan is one of our largest trading partners and we are their second largest trading partner. This relationship has been indispensable for our supply chains. In addition, Taiwan is tremendously technologically advanced and is trading an estimated $786 billion in goods with the US.

However, this alliance is important for other reasons as well. For instance, Taiwan and the US share a lot of common goals such as democracy, and human rights. Taiwan has a developed functioning democracy that is very aligned with America's core values.

Another important thing about our relationship with Taiwan is its strategic location in East Asia. Taiwan is located quite near the South China Sea, which is of great economic significance, which makes them a great ally in promoting the interests of the Asian Pacific region.

However, despite all of this it is very important that the US does not recognize Taiwan as its own nation due to the One China policy. Although, the US is able to still maintain a strong relationship with Taiwan and supports its security and well-being, it is important that we only recognize the People’s Republic of China as the only China.

China has one of the biggest economies and is one of the most thriving countries in the world. The U.S is also a powerful country. Together, they have multiple treaties and agreements so they can live in co-existence. China believes that Taiwan is their territory because Taiwan used to be a part of China. The U.S will be crazy to start a war over defending Taiwan. However, Taiwan wants to remain their own thing by being independent and not be a part of China. China will make Taiwan its territory either the easy way, or with force. With this difficult scenario, there is always the risk of a possible outcome of war between China, Taiwan, and the U.S.

The U.S has treaties with both of them, though they swore to protect Taiwan. This escalated when Nancy Pelosi, United States representative, paid a visit to Taiwan. China is very upset about this and the Chinese citizens absolutely reject the U.S getting involved. This goes completely against the one-China principle, and the three China-U.S joint communiques because the United States had to refrain from any exchanges with Taiwan.

The Chinese government is very upset with this. This has caused a lot more tension and lack of trust in the relationship between China and the United States. China is very clear that they will not be underestimated of the power they hold, and they described this situation as “Playing with Fire” . Those who play with fire perish by it.

China is not going to let this slide easily and wants no more exchanges of the United States and Taiwan. The U.S is attempting to use Taiwan to contain China. The U.S should stop using Taiwan as a playing card to threaten China. They should stop supporting Taiwan's independence and China will definitely make sure consequences are made about the visit of the U.S speaker.

But China and the United States are two large countries and they are going to have to learn to live in mutual-respect, a win-win situation, and healthy co-existence. They can both agree to settle this in mature ways so this doesn’t spiral into a dangerous situation that will leave everyone in loss.

China, Taiwan and the US. China claims Taiwan as its own while Taiwan says otherwise. Taiwan themselves says that they are an “Independent country” and can protect and defend against others on their own but even their own actions say otherwise to that. They seek both support and supervision from the US for their personal agenda. We have made this a point many times such as the Nancy Pelosi visit. But these have been turned against the US by China. They use these peaceful visits and protests as excuses for violence. Using the Nancy Pelosi visit again, after that visit China started large scale military exercises saying that “America MADE us do this.” Notice the word made. They are implying that we said/did violent or actions targeting China, even though all we talked about is that we will do what we need to do to protect Taiwan. We will not stop protecting Taiwan, and if China sees that as a violent act, they can do what they want and what they can to prove it and act on it.

Even though we disobey China, we still continue to respect the Taiwan Relations Act, the three US - China Joint Communiques and the Six Assurances for Taiwan and China in agreement that they must do the same.

The whole problem is that Taiwan wants to be independent but still seeks assistance from the US and that Taiwan also agreed and got support from China, China would use Taiwan to attack US and the US allies and bonds. We will continue to respect Taiwan, even from poor to great decisions. China on the other hand is just using Taiwan as room to expand their country and provoke war and attempt to use it as a violent place. The bottom line is that if we go to war with China, no one wins yet China still tries to attack and lose trust and respect.

In 1972 president Nixon visited Beijing putting a normalization of ties into action. Nixon encouraged the UN to recognise the PRC, after his visit to beijing he started diplomatic relations with china. At the same time he started a policy of relaxation towards the soviet union. Richard Nixon emphasized the importance and benefits of communicating with China while running for president and as president. Given China's size and unavoidable status he thought this was necessary. Nixon also saw China as a valuable Soviet Union counterbalance. In China, Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai believed that improving relations with the United States would help them in their conflict with Moscow. From day one of his presidency Nixon made an effort to make it clear that he was open to conversation with China's government. Through Warsaw, Paris, and the leaders of Pakistan and Romania, the Americans transmitted secret signals. These attempts are what eventually led to Henry Kissinger's secret trip to Beijing in 1971.

When the US started to recognize the PRC and stopped recognizing Taiwan in 1979 the US said that the government of the PRC was “the sole government of China” stating they think that the PRC is the only China.

Sons and Daughters of China,

We speak to you today to address the on-going aggression of Separatist Forces in Taiwan and the United States that have disregarded the true leadership of One China. Even after the great Mao Zedong forged an agreement with the United States in 1972 and has repeatedly committed to the One China policy, the U.S. continues to play the Taiwan card. The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China, and no other country is entitled to act as a judge on the Taiwan question.

Recently, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited China’s Taiwan region in open defiance of the One-China Policy. Why would the United States offend the Chinese people and leadership? The United States defies universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm in international relations because of their greed. The UNited States has given Taiwan the promise of protection and economic prosperity. The United States hides behind a veil of capitalist friendship, but all they want is Taiwan's powerful microchip industry.

The United States's reckless meddling in the region risks awaking the Dragon of War.

China and Taiwan have been fighting over who is China for a while. Even though there is clear evidence to support The People’s Republic of China being the real China. For example 1949 when the communist won the war we showed that we were the real China. Now Taiwan wants to claim that they are the real China?

Now the US has shown its full support towards Taiwan. As we have seen in the past the US has a tendency to put themselves in other countries and territories conflicts. The US being Taiwan's ally has definitely put a difference in both countries being able to solve the conflict. As we have seen with the cold war from 1947 to 1991 nothing could happen because both countries were too worried about a war outbreak.

In 1979 the US derecognized the ROC and said that PRC was the real China. When the Policy was made the Taiwan Relations Act was also instituted. This made it so the US could give infinite supplies to Taiwan which included weapons. So this is very contradictory. The US believes PRC is the real China but will still support Taiwan.

In the beginning of 2022 the war between Ukraine and Russia started. This prompted the US to give most of their supplies to Ukraine. When this happened it was discussed that this would be a good time for the PRC to attack because the US would not be able to support Taiwan as much. But so far China has not shown a sign of striking because of this war.

Then later in 2022 Nancy Pelosi the Secretary of State went to visit Taiwan to talk about the conflict at hand. When this happened the people in China started bombing around Taiwan to show how they were not in support of this new friendship. Ever since this visit Nancy Pelosi has not returned to Taiwan.

No war has been started yet but tensions are high and soon someone is going to explode.

There are many things to talk about when discussing the relationship between the United States Taiwan and PR China. These include trade relationships, cultural relationships, and military relationships. Because the United States wants to avoid war with PR China, we have avoided an official relationship with Taiwan. At the current moment we maintain an unofficial relationship. This is very important as Taiwan is the United States’ 8th largest trade partner and the United States is Taiwan’s 2nd largest trade partner. However, Taiwan is also the majority of the world's main source of semiconductors. Semiconductors are amazingly important for any technology in the modern world, and Taiwan has the best in the market.

The United States’ approach to Taiwan has stayed the same over a very long period of time. We have remained in a completely unofficial relationship and Taiwan is our 7th largest source of highly educated students. These students come from Taiwan to the United States to further educate themselves, then returning to Taiwan with this further knowledge and supplying them with many advances. Many students however stay in the United States and sufficiently contribute to our society.

Meanwhile the United States refuses to cease supplying Taiwan with weapons, further enraging PR China. We have also signed a mutual defense treaty with Taiwan and therefore will be aiding them in the case of war. Our military relationship has allowed the United States to passive aggressively sail delivery ships through some waters that China has claimed and send them a warning that we aren’t scared. We do, however, need to keep somewhat at peace with China as they are one of our largest trade partners and produce most of the world's car batteries and a lot of other everyday necessities including cups, plates, bowls, utensils, phone parts, computer parts, etc. because of this, aggravating China is very risky.

The island of Taiwan is roughly 100 miles away from the coast of south-east China. It currently sits on the “ first island chain” which contains a list of United states friendly territories that are very important for the United states foreign policy.Even though taiwan is a small island it has a lot of very important history behind its possession. China was first in full control of Taiwan in the 17th century when the Qing dynasty started controlling it. Later China gave up Taiwan to Japan after losing the first ever Sino-Japanese war in 1895. China eventually took over the island of Taiwan in 1945 after Japan's loss in World War Two. The Chinese communist party won and took control of Beijing in 1949. Eventually in 1952 Japan would renounce sovereignty over Taiwan.

Throughout the decades China and Taiwan have had a lot of conflict. Taiwan and China have had a pretty big conflict starting in 1927. This was called the Chinese Civil war. The Chinese civil war lasted from 1927 until the 7th of December 1949. The Chinese Civil war ended with Communist having full control of mainland China. In the 1950s there were some islands in the Taiwan strait that were controlled by a country called the republic of china or the ROC another country called the people's republic of china or the PRC bombed these islands two times when this happened the united states got involved and helped the ROC. These islands were important because they were close to China and Taiwan and they played a part in a war that was happening in China called the Chinese Civil war.

The relationship between china and the united states is both complex and dynamic they have a mix of cooperation and competition in various areas. They have strong ties with china being a major trading partner of the United States however trade issues have caused some disagreements such as unfair practices like stealing ideas and manipulating markets.Another source of tension is their different political systems with the united states being a democracy and china having a different form of governance. They also have disagreements on topics like human rights and territorial claims in the south china sea. In certain areas like technology and military power they compete for dominance nevertheless they understand the importance of working together on global challenges like climate change and world stability.

The history between the USA and China goes back a long time. In the past China had dynasties ruling over it and in the 17th century the qing dynasty had control. Later China had to give Taiwan to Japan after losing a war in 1895. Then after world war two china took over taiwan and went through a big change in 1949 when the chinese communist party took control since then the USA and China have had a complicated relationship. China and the US trade a lot but also have disagreements on things like trade practices human rights and territory, they both know they need to work together on important issues like the environment and global security

In conclusion, Taiwan is a small island located near China with a significant historical background.Taiwan has been under the control of different powers including China and Japan throughout its history. The relationship between China and Taiwan has been marked by conflict particularly during the chinese civil war.The united states has played a role in supporting taiwan in the past including during a time when the islands were bombed. The relationship between china and the united states is complex and has elements of both cooperation and competition they trade with each other but also have disagreements on various issues despite their differences they understand the importance of working together on global challenges like the environment and security

It all started In the late 1940s, when the civil war in China resulted in the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as the ruling political entity Causing The Nationalist Party of China (KMT), led by Chiang Kai-shek, to flee to Taiwan in 1949 establishing the Republic of China (ROC) government there.

The US wanted to avoid any spread of communism and therefore recognized Taiwan as the legitimate government of China creating a diplomatic relationship with Taiwan. The US supported Taiwan by sending arms over to help with any attacks from China.

In 1971, the United Nations recognized the PRC as the sole legitimate representative of China, leaving Taiwan without official recognition. However, the US continued to maintain unofficial relations with Taiwan and sell weapons to its government.

As tensions between China and Taiwan escalate, President Xi jingping said that China will take back Taiwan forcefully if needed. In response the US has shown even more support to Taiwan. President Joe Biden’s administration has continued this ongoing support to Taiwan, saying that the US will help defend itself from any potential aggression from China. However the US is making sure to avoid any unnecessary conflict trying to keep both China and Taiwan happy.

In 2022 Nancy Pelosi went to Taiwan to show US support to Taiwan saying “we will not abandon our commitment to Taiwan, and we are proud of our enduring friendship.” This irritated China saying that it goes against America’s “one China” policies.

With all of this going on it’s up to the US to help keep things peaceful between the two countries. We are unsure of how this conflict will turn out but that the US will continue to support Taiwan however it needs. And we will not allow any violent solutions to the problem.

The People's Republic of China and the Republic of China have been fighting for their rights for many many years. Dating back to 1972, the United States recognized and committed to the one China policy. The one China policy means that the United States can only recognize that there is one China, and that Republic of China is a part of that China.

The US has violated the one China policy multiple times by building a bond with the Republic of China with the creation of the Taiwan Relations Act, by defending the Republic of China and supplying aircraft, missiles, and plenty of other arms to Republic of China.

We, the People’s Republic of China, consider the Republic of China as a breakaway province that will eventually be under our control. President Xi Jinping has said that reunification with the Republic of China must be fulfilled, and he has not ruled out the possibility of using force to achieve this. To demonstrate our commitment to reunification, we have launched a series of military exercises, including the firing of ballistic missiles.

The Republic of China first came under full Chinese control in the 1600s. In 1895, China gave up the island to Japan after losing the first war with Japan. However, China took the Republic of China back after Japan lost World War II. Therefore, the Republic of China was originally a Chinese province.

The conflict between ROC and PRC is a complex issue that involves politics, history and many different views and opinions. Their relationship has an impact on most East Asian countries and the US. The debate is not just about territorial issues and claims but is also about broader issues like supremacy, and national identity. Both the ROC and PRC have differing ideas and interpretations of their position. China needs a resolution to this unsettled matter.

We agreed to the one china policy saying that there will only be one china but we never said who it applies to China or Taiwan. Both the US and China have very similar interests such as their political and economic interests and are a big part of both countries' economic systems because China is making part of products that the US will buy. The US has been supplying Taiwan with weapons so that China doesn't attack Taiwan and so it is not defenseless because China is not afraid of attacking Taiwan as shown recently when representative Nancy Pelosi went to Taiwan, China was shooting missiles over Taiwan. And if china did atack taiwan it could mean production stops for worlds largest advanced semiconductor chip maker.

China is a very big part of the US economy being the largest trading partner. In 2020 there was a total of $559.2 billion in goods exported both ways in between the US and China. The US is also one of the largest trading partners with China being the biggest one for China and China is the biggest trading partner for the US. China’s number one export to the US is Textile Products and the US largest export is soybean. Taiwan is also a partner to china, it is the 4 largest country that china has a trading partnership with after South Korea and Japan.

Even though China is the largest trading partner of the US, if we stopped buying Chinese products people who buy the products would still be able to live a comfortable life. And although the US would be able to still live comfortably and easily, China's export would suffer an 18% loss if the US stopped buying products from China. So really china makes life easier for some people to live in the modern day world but most people could still live perfectly fine without buying the products from china.

The Taiwan query is the most important and most sensitive problem at the very heart of China-US relations. The Taiwan strait is dealing with rounds of tensions and severe challenges, and the main cause is the repeated moves by Taiwan authorities and the United States to change the status quo. Taiwan authorities keep seeking the U.S to support their independence agenda. They refuse to recognize the 1992 Consensus, go all out to push forward “de-sinicization”, and encourage “incremental independence”.
China and the U.S. are two dominant countries. The right way for them to work together or at least not threaten each other over a country that has been with China since decades ago, is with mutual respect, all the crisis averted. You stop threatening us, then there are no problems.
For an example On 2 August, in disregard of China’s strong opposition and serious representations, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited China’s Taiwan region. We saw this as a serious violation of the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint pronouncement. Also as a threat to China. It deeply undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, it sends a seriously wrong signal to the separatist forces for “Taiwan independence”. We firmly oppose this, and have made serious démarch and strong protest to the United States.

The Taiwan question is essentially an internal affair of China, no other country is entitled to act as a judge on the question. Also China encourages the US to stop using the “Taiwan card”. And using Taiwan to put an iron curtain over China’s ability to do anything about Taiwan.
Around ~50% of Taiwanese people prefer independence. Even though that is true, there are still people that do not want this. By doing this we are leaving out the minority of Taiwanese people. There are still people who don’t want independence, are we not going to respect their opinoins, and go with the majority of people instead?? Ignore people that believe in what they are advocating for?

Even though America buys so much from us, there is still tension between us and America. We believe that we have the right to retake Taiwan as a part of our country. America has diplomatically agreed that Taiwan is our land but has not followed through on it.

America has already agreed to the one-China Policy. This policy states that anything owned by the Qing dynasty is still owned by China and that there is only one China. In the secret talks in 1971, Henry Kissenger, the Secretary of State, agreed to the one-China Policy. Even more, in 1978 Jimmy Carter, the President of the United States, fully diplomatically recognized China. This means that America has understood that the President of China will deal with any issues related to Taiwan. Finally, America has not fully diplomatically recognized Taiwan and therefore America has not said that Taiwan is a separate country. Many times America has stated that we own Taiwan.

Even after America agreed that China owns Taiwan, America has still been giving arms to Taiwan and making rules that favor them. First, America passed the Taiwan Relations Act in 1979 which let America sell guns to Taiwan. Second, America created the Six Assurances in 1982. In this document, America said that they will not stop selling guns to Taiwan. It also said that they will not recognize that China owns Taiwan. Right after creating the Six Assurances America told China that they will slow down arms sales to Taiwan. They did not follow through because they have recently sold more arms than they ever have before as shown in this graph.

Recently, America has been escalating the problem. In 2022, Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in a state visit style, meaning that America was basically diplomatically recognizing Taiwan as a country. There was no reason to do this because she could have had a secret meeting but instead they showed it off like it was a state visit. Even more, Biden has said that he will protect Taiwan and attack China if need be. America has no need to say or do any of this stuff. Yet they still keep doing it.

With the visit of Nancy Pelosi and America helping Taiwan, America has gone against the One China Policy. This ambiguity will cause trust issues when other countries are dealing with America. America should stop supporting Taiwan and let China deal with their own issues.

The United States has had a long history with Taiwan that has gone through generations and different presidents. While the U.S. does not support an independent Taiwan, our country will defend Taiwan if any country, including China, takes forceful action against Taiwan. We support their membership in international organizations, engage in trade and meaningful collaboration in different fields.

Because the United States has recognized the one China policy and the Taiwan Relations Act for a long time, the U.S does not support an independent Taiwan, does not support one-sided changes between China and Taiwan’s status-quo, and expects peace between China and Taiwan. However, if there is any force used against Taiwan, the US will use its power in defense to promote peace in the region again. The US also supports Taiwan's involvement in different organizations and programs that don't require it to be a state because Taiwan has a lot of technical experience in different fields like public health.

The U.S and Taiwan have a large and growing relationship in commercial, finance, trade, and science. This creates economic positives for the US by providing jobs and investments. In 2020, Taiwan has invested a total of $137 billion into the United States. Taiwan is the 8th biggest trading partner for the US and the US is Taiwan's second biggest trading partner. Our countries have also signed a technology Agreement in 2020 about working together in science and technology to grow our relationship with each other and different fields.

Travel between Taiwan and the United States is also a big factor in our countries’ relationship. There has been a 70% increase in travel from Taiwan to the US since 2012. An increasing number of students study abroad between both countries. The US-Taiwan Education Initiative was introduced in 2020 and aims to send Americans to teach and study in Taiwan and for Taiwanese to teach and study in the US.

The United States’ recent relationship with Taiwan has been tested because of the United States delicate relationship with China. In August of 2022, Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan which sparked a furious reaction from officials in China. After, Chinese military exercises crossed the line to Taiwan's main island. This could have been seen as an attack on Taiwan from China so the next month, President Biden promised to defend Taiwan from any attacks. China's call to unify Taiwan back into the mainland has been criticized by Taiwan who wants independence and the United States who may have to go to war with China over Taiwan.
