My name is Simran Rijal. Hello to my Professional Portfolio. This portfolio will reflect my learning experience, development and career advancement as an Early Childhood Education (ECE) student at Fanshawe College. It showcases my knowledge, skills, values, and experience in working with the children and families, achieved during coursework and field placement as well as practical experience. During my program, I have mastered a good knowledge of child development, inclusive and responsive practice, health and safety as well as the need to establish respectful relationships with children, their families and colleagues. I learn through the framework How Does Learning Happen? of Ontario and certainly the foundations of belonging, well-being, engagement, and expression are the focus. According to this portfolio, reflections, documentation, learning experience, professional artifacts, and evidence of my growth as a reflective and responsible emerging ECE will be some of the components in this portfolio. It will show my desire to create secure, supportive and challenging conditions that benefit every child based on his or her own strengths, interests, and needs. This portfolio will keep being a reminder of my accomplishments and what I want to become as an educator as I continue to advance my profession.

This course also made me reinforce my knowledge about the best ways that children learn through play, exploration as well as meaningful relationships. I also got to know that successful pedagogy of early childhood education is deliberate, receptive, and grounded on keen observation of both interests and needs of children. Instead of having strict plans I got to know that it is essential to be flexible and use the experiences in encouraging the natural curiosity of children. I also learned to plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences and to create inclusive environments to serve all children with this course. I also got to know how to record the learning of children and how I could reflect back on my practice in order to become a better educator. Applications of theory to practice in the real-life scenario made me feel more confident in my role during my placement. Altogether, this course has facilitated my professional development in the sense that it made me aware of my role as an Early Childhood Educator. It helped to strengthen the significance of respectful relationships, reflective practice, and incessant learning that I will bring to my future practice with children and families.
