"Globally women earn on average just 68% of what men are paid for the same work, and just 40% on average in countries with the least gender parity, the WEF (world economic forum) notes."  And, now, with the pandemic this situation has gotten worse by enlarging by 5% the pay gap. 

If we continue at this rate, it will take 257 years approximately to close the pay gap worldwide. So, to try and shorten this time, there is lots of people fighting for this goal. For example, the "US women's soccer team has demanded pay comparable to their male colleagues," many actresses have made massive call for and end to the global pay gap; some journalists at the BBC have made public the shocking pay gap differences that are happening inside the institution.
