Child exploitation is known when a child is used by someone, so that person has a financial gain, sexual gratification and personal or labour advantage. Childs are often emotionally and physically harmed during and after being exploted.

Being exploted can have long-term consequences, both mentally and physically in children. There are multiple factors that make children vulnerable to exploitation such as:

Childhood experiences
History of trauma
Homelessness
Lack of supportive adult figures

China is one of the main countries that are nowadays in a big possesion of child exploitation. In these situations children are not only violently forced to work for long hours, but are also put in risk their own well being due to the constant exposure to dangerous chemicals.

I chose to express child exploitation through photographs since I consider this art type to be one of its kind that is able to demonstrate and covey powerful emotions through multiple elements that can be combined to maximize the effect on the audience.

How will I utilize this information?

I chose for my work to be 3 photographs where I will illustrate the conditions children have to work in and how they are treated when being exploted. To achieve it, I plan on creating a time line throughout the images where the audience is able to recognize how extense the childs working day is and how abusive it is.

Elements of art to be utilized

The first element I will use will be color. My photographs will be in black and white due to the great impact it has on the audience. I think my message will affect and provoke a lot more the viewer if the images are in black and white
Another element I will be using is space. For the positive space I plan to be utilized by the child in every photograph and for the negative space multiple other kids plus the environment in which they work in.
One last element I will use is lines. I will use this element to differentiate the positive from the negative space. Creating a division between those will allow the audience to lead their attention at first to the main subject of the photograph, in this case the children.
