Some areas that need improvement, from the School Counselor Competence Assessment, is using ASCA mindsets and behaviors for student success standards to inform the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program; collaborating with families, school personnel, and education stakeholders for student achievement and success; and developing annual student outcome goals based upon student data. Although I do work in an education center as a counselor support, all of the individuals that I assist are adults in the military. In which, it is soldier’s making educational goals and choices based upon what is best for their career enhancement and life after the military. Therefore, I have not experienced collaborating with families for the success of these individuals. Something that surprised me is that although I have some experience in assessing data that has been collected, I have not had the experience in develop annual outcome goals based upon the data collected. This something that I will be looking into doing in my current job position, prior to becoming a school counselor or even my internship, so that I have some knowledge and experience in developing annual student outcome goals.
