Thank you!
Learning the different ways of dividing words into syllables was very useful.
I think that sometime during the fourth grade and certainly by fifth grade I should teach my students about open syllables.

As a Junior HIgh and High School teacher, I don't really know how the students have learned to read. They usually come knowing it. I do wonder now about the process they went through, how the books are created and am interested in possibly purchasing the Entry Point books in order to work with those struggling junior high students.

The lesson was interesting and informative as it always is - I feel I am learning and it is a wonderful feeling.
Going to school and teaching my students on a daily basis I can see how the conventions we've learnt can benefit my kids. I think it is my duty and privilege to teach them the best way possible and entrust them with the best knowledge. I start exposing the kids to syllables already in 3rd grade. It improves their spelling and makes them feel "in control" and much more self assured.
It is good to know that almost half of the words in English are closed syllables and are predictable in approximately 95% of the times.

I could use this for every grade 1-6 many students still sometimes struggle with vowel sounds and reading multi syllabic words.

An insight I learned is the vowel sounds and reading words with syllable types. I did not know about the v/v rule and diving the vowels so this was something I will definitely apply to my teaching.
I teach years 1-3 and I feel like this is incredibly helpful getting them to learn the language. Thank you for a wonderful lesson.

I'm taking the insight of not giving students real words to read when testing their recognition of open/closed syllables (long/ short vowels)/ phonemic awareness. I also found the 5 kinds of syllables' division very interesting and helpful.
I found useful the idea of of dictating words in order to assess the class' phonemic awareness, or using cards to assess the knowledge of individual students. I will apply this knowedge on every student who is struggling to read and haven't acquird it yet. It is relevant to whoever isn't aware of these conventions regardless of age or grade.
Everything was greatly explained, thank you!
