Remind sends messages as texts without the exchange of phone numbers, but it insures safety and security through the app. Not everyone has the chance to look at their email, and many students do not look at their email often. By sending this as a text, it allows students to get reminders and contact their teacher in a more direct and efficient way. Class dojo is for teacher/parent communication and teacher/student communication. It is a free app for IOS and Android, and a website as well. There are three main features of class dojo: classroom, class story, and messages. Below are descriptions of each. 

  • Classroom: teachers track student development in the form of points, obtained by doing assignments in class and on the app. Students can see their own progress, but not that of others, so there is no competition. Classroom also includes points for classroom behavior that parents can see. 
  • Class story: teachers post lessons or completed work for parents to see so they know what their kids are learning and how they are progressing. Teachers and parents can directly comment on assignments, photos, and videos. 
  • Messages: parents and teachers can directly communicate from the app or website. Parents can get these messages via email if desired.
One of Class Dojo’s best features is that it can translate into over 35 languages so parents and guardians that are not native English speakers can see their student’s information in their own language.

Scoot and Doodle is an engaging environment for students to learn. On Scoot & Doodle Hangouts, as many as 10 students can work in virtual teams. These teams are able to solve problems and brainstorm solutions to educational content uploaded by teachers.

Parents are able to see what their child is working on in class, which will help in communicating with parents about student work and progress! There are many options to personalize it as the teacher. It's a great tool for building home-to-school connections!

This new type of communication is new to the school district I work in. This app is used for school communication, primarily with email, text, app notifications. This app automatically generates an account for each parent. With this app, parents can receive message from the school, direct message teachers, staff, and other parents, and receive report cards.
