About 70 percent of people who win a lottery or get a big windfall actually end up broke in a few years, according to the National Endowment for Financial Education. Most lottery winners go bankrupt because they don't know how to manage their money and they end up spending all of it.

Immediately before or right after a sudden wealth event such as winning the lottery, many clients experience an almost out-of-body feeling. -Robert Pagliarini

They refer to this state as the Honey moon stage of sudden wealth. It’s an exciting time and they feel like they are on top of the world. They feel like that can do anything and buy anything without penalty and consequences. They don't think about how it hurts them financially which causes them to lose their money. Granted some people know that they need to put their money away for safe keeping; most don't though. In the end most lottery winners go bankrupt because they end up becoming financially unstable.

Most of what makes people happy is from their genetics and also the actions they choose to do, If someone were to sit on a couch and do nothing they are possibly going to be less happy than someone who runs or goes out to enjoy nature. Scientifically, about 50% Of your happiness level comes from genetics (genetic set range) . People tend to believe that money or cars or other luxuries will help them reach the highest level of happiness, but in reality those don't make people happier than the average American.

They go bankrupt because they don't manage their money properly, they may buy new cars, or houses, and they just spend it all without even thinking about the consequences. Taxes will eat about 45% of the money that you win. If you give your friend $100 million, note that you (not the friend) will be subject to the gift tax. So keep all of the money or donate it all to charity, as you could very well lose 90% of the prize to federal and state income and gift taxes which is pretty much all of your winnings. lottery winners often think they have a bottomless pit of money and they spend without a care.

"It's natural to want to spend money on nice things once you receive a windfall" , Conrad said.

But if you don't have a budget, even for millions of dollars, it is very easy to lose track of how much you have spent. Many don't realize this until it is too late. What also happens is they get their money stolen and now they

Some problems people face is getting divorces, losing friends, becoming bankrupt or having people beg for money. To avoid these things is learning how to manage your money. You also need to learn who your true friends are and if they are there just for your money. The key to keeping your happiness is to not really worry about getting new things and just save it for things later on in life. The solution is to not let the win define who they are or to change what they enjoyed about their lives before they won. It involves exploring what they want their new lives to look like and creating a strategy that uses the money to help them achieve this. So definitely find a way to put your money away and not get in a haze to spend all of it.
