In this passage Mrs. Koto constantly asks herself how to get home. This passage is about how she misses home and shows how she wants to go back.

These passages show how Mrs. Koto wants to go back to her own way of life and go home. She did not have many and did not seem to care about wanting any. She had no interest on anything, especially the war.

"She did not apply for a job as a nurse's aide at the hospital, or as a timekeeper down on the project farm." (93).

"In her lap lay an half-finished letter. An unopened book." (93).

This passage shows how she is unmotivated and does not care about life. Because of the war it has made her very unhappy and not motivated to do anything. .

She cannot take it anymore. She goes to bed a dreams about a day in her past life. It consisted with her fishing with her father, and the boy (her brother). 

"She hung a white sheet from a rope and called it a curtain and behind the white curtain she lay down on her cot and she closed her eyes and she slept" (94)

"Of warm nights in Kagoshima and chirping bell crickets and red paper lanterns drifting one by one down the river" (95)

"Yes it was," She said. Bamboo. Bamboo." (95)

I think this passage shows her how she misses her past life. She was much happier than. Also I think she shows how she is untrue to herself now. She is untrue to herself because as she had to throw away her culture. The mother was unmotivated, Mrs. Kato was not in the right state of mind and the girl just simply wanted to go back to her childhood.
