This is your summative assessment.
We would like for you to explain the importance of creating a high-quality selected-response assessment.
Explain what to look for when checking the quality of test items.
What are the weaknesses and strengths of using this type of assessment?
How do you create a test blueprint?
How do you know when is it appropriate to use multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, or true/false items?

Selected response assessments are great for when you are trying to assess knowledge-level learning targets, patterns for reasoning and very few number of skill targets. You want to make sure that the assessment has clear instructions, make sure that it is crystal clear information, try to make sure there are no unintentional clues, and use simple vocabulary. A weakness for selected response assessments is that they at times may be hard to write out for a good and clear test, it cannot provide direct evidence of real world skills especially when it is productive or creative skills. Another weakness is that selected response assessments cannot assess higher order thinking skills. Lastly, the top weakness is that students can guess the correct answers. The strengths of selected response questions can vary but one of the top ones is that it can be an efficient and objective to score.

With a test blueprint, the educator wants to start off by selecting the unit that needs to be taught. Secondly, the educator will list the major learning targets that will be focused on in the unit. The educator will then news to identify which method they will use for each learning target. They will then determine the importance of each learning target and grade the important items heavier. Verify previous testing assessments, revise them if need be and make the established changes to reflect the correct learning targets and the graded average pre questions. Lastly, the educator will revise all assessments, whether they be new ones old ones, so it accurately reflects the achievements od the learning targets as needed.

The importance of creating a high-quality selected response assessment allows teachers to test a wide range of material, allowing them to better understand student's misconceptions and flaws. When observing the quality of test items, teachers should look at writing, true and false, multiple choice, and matching items. Quality writing items will include wording that it simple and focused for students. Multiple choice items should include distractors that are carefully chosen. Matching items should include clear directions. Lastly, true and false questions should be entirely true or false. Weaknesses of multiple choice items include questions that do not encourage higher level thinking, favoring students who are proficient at taking tests, and rewards guessing rather than knowing the content. An important strength that selected response assessments allow are the ability to test a wide variety of material. Creating a test blueprint involves the following seven steps: Selecting a short unit that will be taught, listing the major learning targets and defining each target (knowledge, reasoning, skill, product), making the blueprint, identifying methods of assessment for each learning target, being specific about the importance of each target and the weight they will carry, comparing content of the blueprint to tests that already exist and identifying any discrepancies if necessary, and revising the test and/or blueprint to reflect achievement on learning targets. Knowing when to use quality test items is crucial for educators. Multiple choice should be used when there's only one right answer. True and false questions are used when a large body of content is being assessed, using many test items. Matching questions are used when many thoughts and facts are used to test the association of the information. Lastly, fill in the blank is used when a clear answer is needed to show that students know the information rather than selecting their answers from a list.

Some weaknesses that are often attributed to selected-response assessments include: Multiple-choice questions do not test higher levels of cognition (applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating) Multiple-choice questions favor students that are test-wise. Multiple-choice questions reward guessing rather than knowing. The selected-response item format has several advantages. One of the most important advantages is the ability to test a wider range of material than constructed-response type items. You want to make sure that the instructions are clear and precise and that proper feedback is given. Selected response assessments can include one or more of four different item types: multiple choice, true/false, matching, and fill in the blank. It is important that the type of questions match the information that you want to know from each student.

Summative assessments must match the learning targets and allows teachers to test a wide range of material. They are knowledge-based targets and students need to be able to read and understand the questions well. Wording needs to be simple and focused for students. Multiple choice can sometimes have weaknesses because of guessing rather than knowing. Some strengths are they can cover a wide range of materials and is best for knowledge and reasoning.
Selected response assessments include types like: multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank, and matching. All of these need to be a good match. The chart in the textbook gave examples for appropriate selected response assessments. Feedback is also important and helps students and teachers.

Creating a high-quality selected-response assessment is key to successfully assessing and teaching the students. The selected-response assessment has to match what the learning targets were and what the teacher has taught or it would not be fair to the students taking the assessment. A weakness may be that students can guess especially with multiple choice. A big strength is that a wide range of material can be covered instead of just one range and area. These selected response assessments can look like multiple choice, t/f, matching and fill in the blank. An advantage to using matching can be that it allows the teacher to see what students may have confused. It could highlight common confusion in the class if multiple students have the same ones switched. This can help the teacher gear further instruction to help clear up confusion in the classroom.

Creating a high-quality selective-response assessment is important as it allows a teacher to rest knowledge level. It becomes easy for students to guess with multiple choice, true/false, matching, or fill in the blanks. These instructions are normally clear and precise as well with a summative assessment.
