I don't think being a rebel/rebellious is a bad thing, but I believe it applies to deviance. Although tattoos aren't illegal or wrong, growing up I was conditioned to believe that they were bad. I was told that tattoos made people look like criminals, thugs, etc. And that if I got any I would never find a job. You go out and it's not weird to see the people around wearing one. With the constant change in restrictions, at least where I live in Manitoba, the mask mandate is always being implemented then cancelled. When the mask mandate is not in effect, I personally choose to wear my mask, but since I've gotten so use to seeing everyone around me wear a mask, I start to think it's weird seeing people not wear one. Not because I'm judging them for making a different choice than me, but because I'm just not used to seeing people's faces! I've interacted with many people who think the same way as me. Although not everyone who displays deviant behaviour is an outcast - if they were, then I believe that would make all of us outcasts, but that can't be a bad thing, can it? I've been a fan of Jaden Smith for years and he's constantly evolving and doing things differently than his colleagues in the industry. He often gets ridiculed for his appearance. Jaden has always challenged the gender norms and although society is also evolving and becoming more accepting, there are still people who think it is wrong and bad for a human who presents themselves as a male to wear skirts, dye their hair fun colors, wear certain accessories, or paint their nails.
