You are responsible for posting 1 reading response a week under the title of your book. See the page in your packet with all the possible prompts to help get your ideas flowing! This is your chance to reflect on the books in your own words. *1 Padlet RESPONSE (to someone else's post)* in addition to posting 1 reading response, you need to respond to reading response of one other person in your group on Padlet! Your comments should be positive comments only! If you are disagreeing with that person, you need to do it in a polite and factual way. Remember to use reasons, evidence, and quotes. Do this INSTEAD of weekly readers responses. :-)

The text also states" The Taliban had banned all toys that depicted human figures, since they were considered sarliegious" Every kid can be punished, but is was a step too far

What clues make you think that?

The author wrote this book to inform us about the events in Afghanistan in the past and the lives of the people who lived there during the Taliban takeover. The clues that made me think this is the fact that the author wrote the story in a first person view of a boy who under goes all of the events that truly happened in Kabul, death, loss, heartbreak, it all probably happened to the Afghans.

It is getting really dangerous for people, they don't have freedom!! The Taliban people have taken everything away from them. Also since there are even currently wars in Afghanistan it adds to the story line and fear that the main characters may be facing. It is clear that they are most likely scared for the danger that lies ahead.

The reading made me feel sort of sad that Fadi and his family are forced to live this way of life where they ban most things and people can get sick easily and probably die. it is dangerous for women beacuse if they get caught with out being fully clothed or if they have a toy with them. So in my opinion the author is skilled in their work and is confident and is makes for a really good book so the book so far is wonderful and I can't wait to read more.

Learning the struggles and lack of medical treatment was hard for me to read, and it made me realize how much we take for granted. I can't believe how many restrictions there were for the women, like not being able to have toys that look like humans, and if there not fully closed it won't end good. I really like how descriptive the author is because it gives the book a whole new meaning. I can't wait to endulge deeper into the book!

He is new to the country and doesnt know much about how we live in america ( People, talking, the customary systume). I'm not saying he should NEVER go to school, but i think he should learn a little more about our country and how diffrent math is. Also, a boy and his friend dont seem to be nice to anyone and i'm worried Fadi is going to be there next target. You may agrue with me, but in my opion Fadi should be homeschooled till he ready to go to normal school

Even though he has just recently arrived to the country, I think education would be a good choice so he could learn more about history and other features of education. Knowledge is important, and to me he should get the most of it for the time he has. It may help him in future conflicts or benefit him in times of need. All in all I think school is a great opportunity for Fadi.

Like when they hit Jon. I can't believe how much trouble Fadi has to go threw. In chapter 13, as Habib heard about who did the attack he felt very sad and hurt from inside. I bet he feels very stressful and sad too. There life isn't easy right now!!!

After reading chapter 15 I feel disappointed in what the Americans in this book are doing to Muslims. I say this because two men attacked Mr. Singh because they thought he was Muslim. This is disappointing for a couple reasons. One reason is he wasn't even Muslim. And the second reason is Americans are attacking Muslims just because a group of Muslims terrorized america and now when someone sees a Muslim they automatically think they are bad. As you can see for these reasons and more this is why I am dissapointed in what the Americans in this book are doing to Muslims

After reading our assigned chapters, I honestly think that Fadi should tell the teachers and principal about what Ike and Felix are doing. At this point, there's nothing about honor when you get jumped and beat up. There's simply no point in trying to hide a secret that big for self-honor, and it also doesn't help when they're calling Fadi a terrorist and other names. It's not going to help him in the end, and not telling anyone will let Ike and Felix take control over him.

Its really sad that Americans are being horrible to Muslims. Ike and Felix are calling Fadi a terreorist just because he's Muslim. They ask him if he has a bomb or a guid to how to fly an airplane. Also, the icecream man Mr. Singh got attacked by two men because they thought he was Muslim. Just because a Muslim terreorist group attacked the Twin Towers does not mean ever Muslim is bad.

I was surprised when Fadi didn't win first or even second place at the photo competition as usually authors would let Fadi win at get his sister back and everything would end all happy and etc. But the author here made a more realistic impression by making Fadi not win and not get the trip would makes the story far more real feeling and continues the plot of the story without changing the message.

I just finished the book and I am still in shock. I think it is unbelievable that Fadi saw a photo of Mariam when the man showed Fadi photos of his trip. This is amazing because what are the odds the guy who is showing Fadi his pictures has a picture of the camp that Mariam is in. For thease resons and more this is why I am still in shock about the ending of the book.

I am devastated that Fadi didn't win third, second, or first in the photo competition but that's also because he was ambushed by Felix and Ike. They broke his camera and they got into a fight which was just shocking because i thought Fadi was a nice bot but not anyone to get into a fight with. The good thing was they had found out that the people who they paid to find Mariam found the family they she went with but found out that she left and ran away them right away.

After reading chapter 17 and 18 I think that Fadi should tell the principal what really happened with Ike and Felix when he got beaten up, he shouldn't take the blame for fighting back trying to protect himself. He shouldn't have to take the blame just to protect his pride, he would still have his pride even if he told the principal, it's not snitching it's taking action for what an act someone did.

It was a great ending, it was incredible! This book was very emotional and it ended in a way where all the problems were solved. The ending really made me happy and I felt good for Mariam, Fadi, Habib, and Zafoona. I really enjoyed reading this emotional book

I wasent surpised when Fadi didn't win the photocontest. The author didn't want to make the book like a disney princess movie were everyones dreams come true but more like relality. Hard, cold relality. Unlike some books i've read, this makes it clear like is not a disney movie, but truth and tears. A least they found Mariam in the end.
