Rose hips are beautiful this time of year.
Trying to make it simple was challenging.
I wanted it to look more natural by using shadowing as well. This is what I have achieved so far. First layer, yellow ochre and extender background as suggested by Sam and I really like the results. Second reduction layer, ultramarine and process yellow to create an olive green and a smidge of burnt umber.
Third reduction layer I toned the green down a bit more with more ultramarine and burnt umber.
I will have a play with the final red/yellow mix to do the rose. This is the final reduction m layer of a mix of red, yellow and a tiny bit of burnt umber. Maisie, one of my cats amongst hollyhocks. I learnt a lot by doing this. Definitely need to plan more! I was surprised at how well the oils worked as I haven't used them much. Always used acrylics as they were cheaper!

I really enjoyed the process and I’m pleased with the results. I’m going to do it again to refine the image and try different colours.

Any advice for preventing the ink from looking patchy? I tried varying the amount of ink and pressure. I also added extender which helped a bit. Or maybe its time to invest in some better ink (I used speedball here).

I was really pleased with the registration on most of them. This version has a pewter coloured final layer (stems only) but I also tried gold stems and left some prints at two layers (green blend + turquoise). Although I made 14 prints, most of them have issues, but that's something I need to think about and fix next time I do something like this.

I am in the process of 'dissecting' and documenting what I think went wrong and why, but also what I liked about it (from finding the right colour, to cutting the lino badly, or making too much 'chatter' by mistake).

I absolutely enjoyed the process of making it (and making all the mistakes). It's a really nice technique. Thank you so much, Sam and thank you everyone who participated in this workshop. It is always great to see what others make!
