The blueprints that were provided with ideas for the powers and structure of the US government system were the reason behind the events that led to the Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise at the Constitutional Congress. Twelve of the thirteen original colonies sent delegates to the Constitutional Convention. Because it was concerned about losing its states' rights, Rhode Island chose not to attend the Convention. The delegates' opinions on slavery were completely different, and the conference would be ruined if the disputes between the slave and free states weren't settled. The slavery took place in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is where they would trade the slaves that they owned. Different states would meet and trade their slaves in for new ones more skilled slaves that could fit the jobs that they needed slaves to do so they would not have to do the work. They would trade older slaves for younger slaves but the older ones were skilled but the younger ones would not be as skilled as the older ones. The older slaves were more experienced because they were enslaved longer than other slaves.
