         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Key Facts -Elie is born here at Sighet and lives with his family (3 sisters, mom and dad) and is happy to be with them all. being they're in the synagogue for a long time have got the faithful to be gone.<br>-Moishe tells him about the Nazis, no Jews believed him, even Elie didn't believe him<br>-The German soldiers arrive and pass new rules that restrict Jews. </strong></div><div><strong>They created Ghettos, where Jewish people were sent to. This gave the Jews less rights and no freedom, and ultimately sent to a concentration camp.</strong></div><div><br><strong>Mood - overconfident <br>-The Jews were told that the Nazi is coming to kill them all and they did nothing.<br>-The jews were told that the Nazi were coming but they thought that Hitler wouldn't come and that killing them isn't his priority <br><br>Theme -being cocky too early is a sure way to get ruined<br><br>Character Traits- <br>hopeful- Elie and the other Jews were hopeful that nothing was going to happen<br>confident-Elie and the other Jews were confident that Hitler wont do anything  </strong><br><br><strong>Vocabulary Sentence - at the beginning Elie feels very comfortable and confident since he's with his family and other Jews but he was decisive n believing Moishe when the German soldiers started to make ghettos which showed their lack of virtue <br>-The Ghettos was a spectacle, they had a very significant part in the holocaust since it signals that the Jews were stripped of any say, power, and rights </strong><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-<strong>Key Facts <br>-Elie and his father was separated from his mom and sister since women and children were killed while men and young men were kept as slave labourers<br>- Elie was going to electrify and consequently kill himself instead of getting burned but didn't<br>-Elie and his Father go through the selection process and don´t know if going left and right would be death of survival<br>-Elie and his father told themselves that the women in their family is still alive which gave them a false sense of hope<br></strong><br></div><div><strong>Mood - Powerless<br>-Elie and is father was powerless, since someone else decides if they live or die<br>-Elie and his father were forcefully separated from their family, and they could do nothing about it<br><br>Theme - Impotent<br>a person is impotent when another person decides their fate<br><br>Character Traits - <br>terrified: Elie was terrified since he went to a concentration camp where death is everywhere<br><br>self-deception: He tricked himself to believe that the women in his life are alive when he knows that it's not true <br></strong><br><strong>Vocabulary Sentence - <br>-</strong>Elie realizes he is in peril when he enters a concentration camp<strong><br>-Elie deluded himself into believing his mom or sisters are alive</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Key Facts - Elie loses faith in God as he spends his first year going through all the hardships the soldiers/camp put him through. <br><br>Mood - Despairing<br>Evidence 1: "The bread, the soup-those were my entire life. I was nothing but a body. Perhaps even less: a famished stomach." (pg 52)<br><br>Evidence 2: "There followed terrible days. We received more blows than food. The work was crushing. And three days after hen left, we forgot to say Kaddish." (pg 77)<br><br>Theme - Struggles are what keeps the world in war <br><br>Character Traits - </strong><br>Trait 1 - Annoyed "Blessed be Gods name? Why, but why would I bless him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because He caused thousands of children to burn in his mass graves? " (pg 67)<br><br>Trait 2 - Worried "Next to me lay a Hungarian Jew suffering from dysentery. He was skin and bones, his eyes were dead."          <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Key Facts -  They had to run for 12 miles, heavy snow, no food and being treated badly.<br>Everyone was very exhausted but if they went to sleep they would die because they had hypothermia. They would take turns resting to make sure they didn’t go to sleep.<br>They take the liberating train where a lot of people die of starvation, many people were losing their humanity and couldn't take it anymore.</strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Mood - Distress<br>" The idea of dying, of ceasing to be, began to fascinate me. To no longer feel the excruciating pain in my foot, To no longer feel anything, neither fatigue nor cold nothing." ( night,86)<br>" Days without food or water. We were forbidden to leave the barrack. The door was guarded by the SS." (night,95)<br><br>Theme -Despair <br>thematic statement: In this part of the book it is representing despair because of all the hardship and the lost of hope that had an impact on the people.<br><br>Character Traits - Cautious --&gt; If prisoners couldn’t keep up or they would stop then they would be shot and also if they went to sleep they would die because they had hypothermia, so he had to take care of his father and himself.</strong></div><div><strong> Afraid --&gt; Elie didn’t want to be like the rabbi's son and leave his father behind but he had the idea in the back of his head.</strong><br><br><strong>Vocabulary Sentence - Elie's father does not have a lot of vitality.<br>I think Elie is poignant for thinking about leaving his father.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Key Facts - First the Nazis take the prisoners to a different camp. Elie then abandoned his sick and dying father. Finally the prisoners were liberated.<br>----------------------------------------<br>Mood - Haunted because these pages show us how even after they were freed they were stuck with the trauma and were HAUNTED by whatever happened in the camps for the rest of their lives.-"From depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me." "the look in his eyes as he  gazed at me has never left."<br>----------------------------------------<br>Theme - Trauma- Trauma is something that haunts someone for the rest of their lives. <br>----------------------------------------<br>Character Traits - Afraid &amp; Anxious- "Die today tomorrow or later? the night was growing longer never ending. "(98) "Two men approached my father. i threw myself on his body. he was cold. i slapped him. i rubbed his hands, crying."(99)</strong><br>---------------------------------------------------------<br><strong>Vocabulary Sentence - 1. When Ellie had to decide weather or not he should leave his father he was very solemn.-2. In these pages, whilst they were switching camps, Ellie and his father needed to make sure that there was no space for idleness. if they let that happen they could put themselves in a very dangerous situation. </strong></div>]]></description>
