The reason why I chose this quote because Peter finally realizes it is time to let go. He and Pax, the fox, were an inseparable pair. His dad went to war and made Peter abandon Pax on the side of the road. Peter did not want to but he had to let Pax go. He decided later in the story that he would find Pax and claim him back. He wanted his best friend back. Throughout the story Pax made friends with what would be his future family. After the youngest one in the family Runt got his leg blown off by mines, he always kept guard with Runt's older sister Bristle, and they all united as one small family.
After all of the walking Peter had to do to find the original location where he left Pax, he found a leg and called for Pax hoping Pax did not lose his leg. After Pax responded to him, he could see 2 other heads. He knew that Pax had a family now and knew that Pax's fox friends needed him more than Peter did. Earlier, Peter found the green soldier. In tears, Peter threw the green toy soldier that Pax loved one last time as far as he could (because Pax always fetched it. That was how Peter got rid off Pax in the first place).

I agree with the Kirkus Book Review of Pax because I found that the alternating chapters made the book more interesting. It was a cool way to show the points of view of Peter and Pax as they got warmer and even red hot. They were reunited again. I agree that the book Pax was perfectly paced because it showed the progress of Peter and Pax as they got closer and closer to each other. The alternating chapters really helped show the pace as Peter and Pax took baby steps to find each other again.
