Page 26 says that "my mother and father had taught me how to hit rabbits over the hedwith wine jugs, then skin them cleanly for fur vests," This shows how she was taught to be able to survive on her own by using nature. The training gave the swordswoman life lessons that she needs to know in order to be a great warrior. In a similar way, the stories that Kingston's mom told her were life lessons that would help her get through the sexist, harsh world. As a result, she grows up to be a strong woman who

the swordswoman's training prepared her for battle because it showed her how to analyze situations and use her surroundings to her advantage (as with the dragon portion of the training). She also learned to pick which battles to fight, which ones would be worth it, which was shown by the incident when she looked in the gourd to see her brother and husband being taken but was told to wait for the greater good. This applies to Kingston because Kingston decided to let minor discrimination in her workplaces and things slide and deal with it in her own way, while also standing her ground in some ways, like page 48-49 where she refuses to type invitations for a banquet because the restaurant wasn't what she thought was right.

The swords woman trains by observing the world around her, and then relating that to herself. She learns how to have patience, and respects animals as if they have the same intelligence and intellect as her. This training applies to Kingston because her mother also taught her life lessons that she could apply to the story and remember. These stories shaped her into the person she is. Nature is the equivalent to her mother within the stories. There are many metaphors on page 23 that can show how she learned from nature. She was able to copy owls and bats, and she could leap like a monkey.

The swords-woman's training helped prepare her for battle when she used the world around her, the way she observed and related to her and her family. This helped make her wiser and more aware when she battled. This training applies to Kingston because she was in training to become a strong warrior to save many, do help herself do this she used the world around her as well where she used only food (berries) and the way animals would act, this would help her become stronger "After six years the deer let me rub beside the. I could jump into the air from a standstill (Kingston 23)." The way Kingston trained with the animals/nature made her realize their is strength and different skills in each living thing and that she can use their skills to become a stronger, wiser warrior, "Every creature has a hiding skill and a fighting skill a warrior can use (Kingston 24).

On page 26 it says that her "mother and father taught her how to hit rabbits over the head with wine jugs, then skin them cleanly for fur vests." This shows how she learned to live off of her environment and make the most out of every thing that she finds. This training also applies to Kingston because her mother is teaching her how to survive in the harsh world around her. Kingston is also learning what to do and what not to do in her village and wherever she goes.

The sword woman's training prepared her for battle because when she trains she is learning about the world around her and teaching her how to be well educated not only about nature but about herself/her surroundings as well. This training can apply to Kingston in a way that Kingston's mother is also teaching her about life and how to 'get through it safely'/independently through the talk stories; both are preparing the woman to be in a certain mentality to focus and adapt- "the first thing you have to learn, is to be quiet".

The swords woman's training prepared her for battle because it gave her more respect towards nature and use the world around her as an advantage. She is able to relate the ways of nature to herself. She connects with the animals and realizes that they are actually very similar to her. This training also applies to Kingston because she went through training too as she was learning to fight and become a champion. Kingston has to become one with nature which is very similar to the swords woman. On page 23, Kingston explains what she was learning through her training and how she is connected to animals and nature. "I learned to move my fingers, hands, feet, head, and entire body in circles." She explains that after five years she could copy movements like owls and bats.

She learned that patience is the most important thing when learning. On page 23, Kingston writes, "After six years the deer let me rub beside the. I could jump into the air from a standstill." When she writes, that after 6 years she could jump from a standstill. She writes that patience allowed her to gain skills and that anyone can learn anything, but it will just take time.

The sword woman's training helped prepare her for the battles she would fight through discipline and learning and being able to adapt to different situations she might see in real life and within all of her battles. She became extremely patient, wise, and almost became one with nature. She was able to connect to nature very easily. This training applies to Kingston because the mother was trying to almost do the same thing with her daughter, which is very similar to the training the woman faced.

She learned how to adapt to different circumstances for battle. She became smarter and more patient, so she knew how to choose her battles wisely.
