Dr. Seuss's book were my favorite collection of books during my early childhood. What I liked most about his books were the short sentences and rhyming. The plot of the stories were easy to remember and the book even easier to memorize. Making me to believe, that at a young age I was able to read.

I remember receiving this book as a gift from my grandmother, during the time she was working at the Plaza Hotel. Every time she came over she would read the would to me, and was instantly one of my favorite stories. The story was about a girl who lived int he Plaza Hotel, who always found herself involved in mischief.

When I think of "The Magic School Bus" plenty of memories appear. This brand I attach to the memories of going to school book fairs. The stories attached to this brand, also spoke of adventure. Which is what attracted and excited me into reading.

I remember being introduced to this author by my cousin in Junior High School. This book sparked my independent reading journey. I was attracted to the connection of what many girls that age went through. Struggles with physical, mental, and emotions. Learning how to love oneself in the body that you're in. It was instantly became a favorite read of mine, as I grew in my reading space.

The Harry Potter collection holds a special place in my pre teen to teenage era. These books spoke on adventure, friendship, and determination. Each story built upon the next, leaving the reader in suspense leaving you wanting to know more. Although it was a hefty read, it never stopped me from continuing to read.

High School

I was introduced to this book int he 10th grade. We spent half the school year dissecting this book. Having open discussion, using the text to support of positions and opinions. This book opened our thought process as to what life was for minorities in the early 1940s and 50s in the South. Speaking on topics of racism, oppression, and identity. This was eye opening and introduced me to a world I hadn't been exposed too.

Adulthood

I remember this book being gifted to me by my aunt.During the time Obama was servicing his second term in office. SO being able to watch him run a country while reading about his life was full circle. This book gave the reader a glimpse of him life from childhood into presidency. Speaking on the obstacles he faced. This book gave me a different view of him and a new found respect showing that he too found a way from very little.

My earliest memories of magazines, especial Essence is seeing laying around the house at home or by family. It's only when I became older, that I took interest in reading them. The magazine covered topics of fashion, entertainment, beauty, culture, and news which targeted the African American women audience.

Knowing what I knew about Michelle Obama, and the work she was done. I was interested in what her story was. Her story spoke of self- discovery, empowerment, personal growth and development, and community. This book was nothing short of that.

Apart of my currently finished reads, I can say this kept me intrigued. It was apart of my cousin bookclub. The cover of the book is what caught my attention, to further discover what is was about. This story took place in the early 1940s or 50s in the South. It dealt with identity, family, and race through the lives of two twin sisters that were lighter skin African American that end up taking two different life paths.
