If we are called to be disciples, and our vocation is Catholic education, how can we share our teaching to reflect these? Discuss how you incorporate each of these into your grade level / curriculum. Respond meaningfully to one other post.

The teaching of the Apostles

This first Church will have as pastors and teachers the apostles that we educators represent: not easy to compete today! But above all, let us encourage the fact that Christians are “diligent” in their educational mission. This can also be implied as “if they hold fast” to the teaching that came from the apostles. The image that emerges here is that of a community which above all wants to form itself. A Church which ardently desires to know, understand, live, apply this teaching in its life and share it with its faithful. The community has a thirst for knowledge, a thirst for the word of God, a thirst to grow in Christian maturity. The teaching of the apostles invites us all to rediscover this desire, this feeling of admiration for God and this thirst for his word. Let us never be satisfied. How could we be filled with God?

The second church tells us to participate in sharing our life with someone else. Christians share Christ and his blessings, and because they share all of this together, they live in fellowship with one another. This communion can be expressed in several ways, but in our context it seems to specifically concern the sharing of religious values. This is reinforced on the material level in vv. 44-45: "All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold their goods and possessions and divided the profits among all, according to the needs of each." If the first Christians therefore had a sense of their reciprocal responsibilities (they took care of each other, concretely, generously) why can't the new generation continue it in the same way? When the need arises, you must be prepared to sacrifice your personal time for the good of the community.

This principle, at work in their “fraternal communion”, must always be relevant. As we participate in a mission of Christ, our value system must change. Goods, money, are no longer rights, but tools for the glory of God and the service of his people. What are we willing to give up for the common good? How much time, energy, availability, money are we ready to share with our brothers and sisters who are in need? How far will we allow Christ to transform our value systems?

Breaking of Bread

The third church is that of sharing bread. Believers like to get together, and they do it every day, especially around a table. Their homes are open to all, and they share their meals simply and wholeheartedly. The meal at Jesus's desk is a special moment to really get to know each other, appreciate and love each other, around sincere and authentic conversations. This mutual hospitality reflects the very essence of the Gospel: as strangers as we are, Jesus invites us to eat at his table and God himself invites us very often to a meal (communion), during which he nourishes us and loves us. Are we ready to get to know each other better? Are we willing to experience fraternal and deeper relationships in the community? How can we do this without inviting ourselves to share with each other and spend time together?

Prayers

Finally comes “the prayers”. Throughout Apostles Act we discover that the early Church was a “praying” Church. In athis way, prayer is the cement of the community, but also the cement of the three other three pillars which are mentioned in the text. Teaching is not enough to maintain and grow the Church. Sharing alone cannot meet all the needs of community members. And meals, as important as they are to the cohesion of the Church and to fraternity, do not replace the time we take to pray for one another. As educational communities, we need everyone's prayers and everyone needs the prayers of the community. Let us never stop giving the first place back to its rightful place in our community lives. It will transform us, it will give us dignity, desire and a lot of joy.

All educators are community leaders in the number of students and parents they supervise daily. Father Schmitz identifies in the video four major elements on which we, as leaders, must replace the apostles of Jesus in spreading the word of God as disciples. In our educational vocation, how can we share our teaching based on the teaching of the apostles, community life, the sharing of bread and prayers?
