Today we learned how to use the cameras and what types of different shots there are. For example there are:
-long shots
-close ups
-worms eye
-medium shots
-extreme close up
-birds eye view
-high angle
-low angle
and a few more.
In my group we struggled to get a worms eye view because the camera was attached to a tripod, so we removed the camera from the tripod which allowed us to get the worms eye view that we wanted.
Camera skills
We where shown how to activate the grid on the cameras to help us line up our shots. We learned that when taking a photo of someones face you should make sure the eyes are level with the third line.
We where also shown how to focus the camera correctly.
I found it a bit tricky remembering all the controls and buttons to control different things but the more I used the camera the easier i found controlling the camera
Things I enjoyed
I enjoyed the task of taking pictures using each shot type because i was the person directing and telling the actor what position to be in and how to pose. I feel that I did a good job and I would do it again.

We learned about codes and conventions which are things that determine what genre of film it is. These can include:
-Props
-Characters
-Setting
-Time setting
-Music
-Sounds
-Language
And many more.

This was an exercise to help us get to know our own class mates. After this we elected a class representative. I didn't put my self foreward because I wasn't confident I could do a good enough job for the class.
 I learned about different media words used to describe a meaning. Denotation is what a picture is showing you, it is the obvious meaning. Connotation is what the picture shows us and what we think it means, it is the hidden meaning. Signifier and signified

In the afternoon we set up lights and camera equipment and learned where to place them and what kind of effects you can create through  lighting. A few examples are: low key lighting, full light, back light and many more.

In the morning Cliff showed us what we had to do and how we should plan. Later on we created a storyboard which was showing the scenes from the script we where given. we created this to help us act out the scenes. I was one of the actors and had to play lists part because we didn't have a girl in our group. None of us wanted to act but we over come this by giving each other the roles by seeing who is the best at each role. I enjoyed this  because I enjoy creating things such as adverts and films.

When we got back from our brake www started analysing our own print based ads and explaining different techniques that where used. I enjoyed this part because we where left to research our own work and could concentrate on doing out task.

I feel confident I can do the basics but i will need more time to be able to create more quality pieces of work. Which meant we had to try again after our lunch and this time we did it in the collage campus. After this we went on the macs and started searching for work experience, i find it quite tough finding work experience through the internet but I'm confident i will find work experience.
After that we where shown all the different roles in the task and we where told to choose one of the roles that we would want to do. I chose sound director because i know little about the subject and would like to learn more about it.

After this we split up and one group searched for actors and my group searched for areas to film. I enjoyed this because it meant I could find places to film to fit my idea of the advert.
