A YOUNG filmmaker is hoping to kickstart his first short film project with a little help from the public.

Luke Cliff, pictured, was on a media studies course at Harlow College when he first heard about Kickstarter - a website that allows people to fund creative projects. Now the aspiring director is hoping to raise £500 to make his film, Aftermath.

Set in the 21st century after a nuclear war, it tells the story of a small group of people - including the protagonist Oscar - who leave their nuclear bunker and re-enter what is left of the world.

“I have pretty much been doing this all my life,” said Luke. “A few of my friends and I were messing around with film ideas and the idea for Aftermath came from that.

“I heard about Kickstarter at college where one of our units was about funding and it seemed like a good idea to use it for Aftermath."
