I did my observation for an hour and a half. Students used to have English lessons a year and a half ago. However, they don’t have an English teacher now. So, during my observations I only observed how their normal teacher worked with them.
I observed the Red room's students. Students are little children from 2 years and 9/10 months to 4 years old.

At 10:30 all the kindergarten's children have a meeting of ten minutes, in which they sing lots of songs.

The headmistress ‘Seño Nori’ presented me to students. She said ‘Díganle ¡Hola! a la seño Lore. Ella es una seño de inglés, que les va a dar algunas clases a mis alumnos… los chicos más grandecitos…’ so, they said ‘¡Hola!’ and I said ¡Hello! waving my hand

Then, they came back to their specific rooms with their teachers.

At 10:40a.m they had breakfast. Before having it they sang this song:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbsmjUeD2ek

So they drunk some milk, tea or water and ate some cookies.

Then at 11 o’ clock they worked with a specific topic. During that lesson, they did a collage with colours.

From 11:30 am to 11:50 am they played with didactic games on the tables.

Finally, from 11:50 to 12 o’clock the teacher told them a short story about insects.(The teacher sang this song while students were sitting on their chairs in a circle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVdiZwyxdNU)

The final song was this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyi_NmbIf-g

They did all the activities with a song, they love singing and dancing!! The teacher told me that kids haven’t developed their fine motor skills yet, that’s why it’s very difficult for them to write their names or using scissors.

These are some of the students' works:

Today, I also made an observation of an hour and a half.
I arrived and they told me ¡Hola! and I said Hello! waving my hand again.

They had the same routine that I narrated on my first observation day.
However, today they felt more confident with me.They told me about their families and about their favourite food while they were having breakfast.

During the 30 minutes that they do an activity (from 11 o'clock to 11:30 am) the teacher talked to them about their bodies (how to name each part of it...'cara, ojos, boca, orejas, piernas, brazos, manos, pies y panza) they sang a song to work with the body, and then they draw themselves on the board . (The teacher wrote the name of each of them next to their draws)

Then, at 11:30 a.m they played with didactic games until 11:50 am.

Finally, they had an activity in which the teacher told them a story with different animals' sounds and they had to guess the correct animal.(The teacher sang this song while students were sitting on their chairs in a circle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVdiZwyxdNU)

The final song was this one:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyi_NmbIf-g

These are some of the children's draws:

This was the first time I worked with little children I was so nervous!!! However, I must say it was a nice experience. They enjoy surprise and they're so sweet!

For most of them this was their first English class (some of them had had English classes when they were 1 or 2 years old).

So, in my lesson plan I included the greetings: Hello! and Good- bye! (Unfortunately I really forget the Hello song! )
Then, I introduced the weather (sunny, cloudy or rainy). I showed them pictures with a sun , with clouds and clouds with drops of water.

2. How did the students react to your teaching, to the activities and the materials? How did they react to the lesson?

The topic of the lesson was : The colours! They learnt the colours: red , blue, green and yellow.
I brought a 'friend' (a fluffy pet called Molly). When , they saw Molly they asked me if they could touch her.
Molly helped me to introduce the pictures that created the context, in which they learnt the colours.
Molly, had a bag... and in her bag she had something to show them. (They were anxious to see what she had in her bag). Molly had pictures, and kierchiefs (red, blue, green and yellow ones) in her bag.
The pictures had characters that were familiar to them .
McQueen Ray (the character of cars) helped me to introduce the red colour.
Pepe frog introduced the green colour.
The minion introduced the yellow colour.
Dory introduced the blue colour.
They were surprised and excited at the same time, when they saw those characters! They were so happy!

With kerchiefs they reinforced the colours they learnt.

3.What apects of the lesson do you consider successful?

Despite the matter of these kids didn't use to have English lessons, they demonstrated enthusiasm for learning. They repeated the colours, and some of them, almost every word I said.

Besides, they paid attention during the 50 minutes of the lesson, and participated in the different activivties with interest.

Molly with her bag:

1.What teaching strategies did you use? Which ones were effective? Why / why not?

I taught them through pictures, songs and games (the activities) in order to apply different teaching strategies to different multiple intelligences.

In this lesson, the pictures and the games were effective, because they caught their attention and help kids in their learning. They learnt some animals with some characters that were familiar to them, like: Puss in boots, Rio, Marshall (Paw Patrol) and Pepe frog.

Then, in the activities (the games) the related the animal with their specific sounds. They loved guessing the animal through their sounds.

In this lesson, the song Old McDonald had a farm wasn’t very effective. I mean, they loved the music of the song but they couldn’t sing it. Maybe, if they always had English classes, they would have opportunities to sing it again and learn it. (Even though, as homework, I gave them the links to search the songs on YouTube with their parents.)

5. What do you find useful of this lesson that will help you plan the next one?

Through the first and second lesson I could assure that children are more motivated to learn when the teacher uses things that are familiar to them. In both classes I used characters that were familiar to them. So, in mi third class I’ll also apply famous characters they know, to teach them the numbers.

Today kids learn the numbers: one, two, three and four!

6. Choose a moment that was important for you during the lesson. Describe it and say why it was important.

In the first and second lesson as in this one as well, I felt very happy when Erian participated! Erian is a kid, who is very shy and has some problems to socialize. His teacher told me that perhaps he won’t participate, because it’s difficult for him to develop confidence in somebody new. Fortunately, he paid attention all the time, participated eagerly in all the activities and … I have to say it! his pronunciation was almost perfect!

9. Choose a quotation that represents an event, knowledge, insight in this lesson.

If I have to define how I felt in my last lesson this is the phrase: 'A kindergarten love story'. Although, this was the first time I worked with little kids, I must say they are adorable, they're sweet and full of love.
I enjoyed these classes with them so much!!

By Unknown writer.
