Many people may hear the term "Picture Book" and immediately generate the idea that picture books are books with vivid illustrations and basic language usually aimed for young children. However, I believe that these books are the perfect opportunity to allow these young readers to dive into the world of the story through the text and illustrations and unleash their imagination.

Something I always do with my students before reading a book, is that we take a picture walk and allow our imaginations to create our own story with the illustrations. Without using the text, they bring the pictures and story to life with their own words. After reading the story, they compare their story to what story actually was.

Children need stories and books to make a sense in the world. They can bring out feelings, emotions and concerns. Picture books are a perfect way to allow these experiences to unfold into positive ones and allow the child to use the illustrations to find further meaning beyond the text.
When choosing books for my future library, there is certain criteria that I will consider when deciding which books I will bring into my library collection. Some of these include the following:
What is the theme?
Can the child follow and understand the story through the illustrations?
Do the illustrations support and enhance the story?
Can children understand the story without the text?
Is the audience for the book understood and respected or does it condescends?

Other things that need to be taken into consideration is anything physical about the book. For example: the cover, the end pages, title page, the binding, the size and spacing of the illustrations, text placement, font type, style and & size, the spine and gutter (pictures don't get lost in gutter), paper quality, and reviews from known people and websites.

The age range will play a huge role when choosing picture books for my library. However, regardless of that, the books need to be appealing to the child's eye and durable for the long use in the library.

Traditional literature originates from long ago and are stories that were told orally then transferred onto paper in the future. It does not necessary have to be old, ancient stories but can be stories altered and changed through each retelling. However, they all have roots from its original story. Traditional literature can surround several types of literature like myths, legends, folktales and fables.
There is certain criteria that must be considered to determine the quality of the traditional literature.
-indefinite setting
-archetype & stereotypes
-motifs
-repetitions
-magic

I will collaborate with my school's current librarian when considering ordering more books or removing books from the current inventory. This information has given a wide range of considerations to look for when choosing books for a library. Like Dr. Perry and Dr. Lesesne mentioned that sometimes we do have to judge a book by its cover. Young children are the audience for these books and if they don't find the book appealing to their eyes, they might not be interested in reading the book.
In addition, having a wide selection of traditional literature in the library can be useful when collaborating with teachers when teaching the origins of cultures, beliefs, morals, values, history of people, and beliefs of society.
