Hi. I am having trouble with the library presentation. The formatting is a bit odd. Is it because I’m using an Apple OSplatform? Most of the slides are like this. Simon

Hi Sebi. I am working full time (Monday to Friday) and also have children (so never a dull moment) and I fully understand the overwhelming feeling of 'what have I just got myself into'. But I think just take each day as it comes, work through the schedules by trying to complete each weeks allocated material and tick things off as you go. Maybe start to print off some reading material for your assignments now so you are slightly ahead of the game there and jot down ideas as and when they come to you.
I am really lucky that I have an incredibly supportive team and if you have concerns, speak to your Line Manager for support and allocated study time. I'm sure everything will be fine and we are all here to support one another too. I know I will need it!!!!
As for the phantom, I'm only guessing but as long as you have some kind of phantom/source you can use to gain an image, it doesn't have to be a Williams Liver Phantom. The practicals were all done and available for review on the QC website too.
Good luck!!

For bone scans we use an asymmetrical window. The lower limit is set at 7.5 and the upper at 10. This has been researched by the department over the last year and trialed on 63 patients who agreed to have 2 scans done; one with the symmetrical window and one with the asymmetrical setting. The images were then compared. We have found a improvement in image clarity as the lower limit cuts out some scatter.

A colleague has presented this at the EANM conference in Vienna this week.

asceticsOne of those ‘may have to buy chocolate for colleagues’ type of days. Booked out some camera time with our physicist to complete the experiments. The ‘off’ peak took about an hour to reach 5000kcounts. I was then limited on time so I was only permitted to conduct the count variation to a 10% count, I.e. 25kcts instead of 250kcts. Rob- my physicist thinks this is more appropriate to demonstrate the differences. Is this any good or should I insist on the values that you supplied?
On a more positive side, performing these has taught me loads about how to create protocols and manipulate factors. Getting the bar phantom straight is a real test of patience. It may not have mattered but couldn’t cope with wonky images!

I must say I really have to concentrate and focus. I have already spoken with the Physicist in our department regarding the experiment, most of the the equipment required are in the other site. Physicist are very happy to bring them to our site and spend time with me to do the experiment. I hope we will be able to help each other and good luck to all.
