When Muslim Scholars had access to so much more knowledge, they flourished; cheap paper went hand in hand with the scholar movement, and there was a significant advance in Muslim learning.

- Mahnur

The Europeans translated Arabic texts and taught them at university. Many influential mathematicians, scientists, and astronomers referenced and learned through these texts. The "intellectual encounter" of knowledge between these areas was vast. Ultimately, it led to the Renaissance- a boom in economy and creativity.

- Mahnur

1. What were some factors that led to the growth of learning in Muslim lands?

One factor was the translation of Greek, Pahlavi and Sanskrit books being translated into Arabic during the Abbasid period. Muslim scholars then read these books and added their own knowledge. Another factor was the availability of cheap paper,on which Muslim scholars wrote about new fields of study. In al-Andalus, Muslims, Jews and Christians then got a chance to learn from these works.

2. Why did European scholars find works from Muslim regions of interest to them?
Works from Muslim regions were translated in Latin and Hebrew in the city of Toledo in Spain. A person named Alfonso VI of Castile was a patron to Jewish and Muslim scholars. Some of the books were written by Muslim scholars, while others were translations of Greek books.

3. What was the long-term impact on European learning?
The learning from Muslim works was taught in European universities. For example, the famous scientist in 12th century, Roger Bacon studied the Optics from the Muslim work of Alhazen (al-Hasan Ibn al Haytham) in Latin. European learning was transformed through the contributions of Muslim works, but this will be later forgot and ignored.
