In the world of information, people want constant information not caring about what it is. This leads to people illegally listening into conversations that are private which just happens to be the entire premise of 1984. Although we might never get to the point of full control, even to the point of wanting to control thoughts and emotions, we are starting to inch closer and closer to the world of Big Brother.

Maybe not exactly but take phones for example, the government, or FBI, or CIA could easily track or listen to what we say. Of course right now it's only if they choose to do so.
