         <title>Adverse impacts of shock/extreme message/ads</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Negative impact of shock/extreme ads and the ongoing. In situations like the HIV/AIDS scare in the 80's and now covid, how people get a message out is not well considered. The long term impacts of messaging that is potientally harmful when not well consdiered is an issue. Often the "Well its more important to just get this out now" "It won't be That big a problem" "W'ell fix it afterwards"&nbsp;<br>Its a lot like the solor scheme, the insualation schemes. Government ideas that are pushed out with minimal thought and no proper legistlation or safety considerations. This leads direclty to explotiation of the schemes and when they eventaully get round to checking, the worst offenders phenoix their companies and start all over again.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Corporate messaging for multinationls</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What about the rhetoric and political spin when spending taxpayer money to prop up multinationls where adverse messaging is reframed as "Hurting the workers" and "won't someone think of the workers" as an excuse to give profitable companies subsidies.&nbsp;<br><br>The car industry is an excellent use case for this. The government handed out billions to help prop up the industry under the guise of "Supporting manufacturing workers in australia" These companies continued to run with government funding, continued to make profits right up until the government stopped giving them money. As soon as funding was withdrawn, local manufactuing was shut down and in the case of holden GM, they pulled out of australia completey.&nbsp;<br><br>As taxpayers, we basically propped up apparently failing industries/businesses who then profited from this and ended up shuttign down anyway. Given the sums of money given to multi nationals v the number of jobs they maintiained and then lost anyway, it was very poor value for money.<br><br>The same is happening in mining and other traditional industries like power. Multi nationals and politicans talk up the jobs in these industries and how it helps the economy but do not provided anything sort of accountability or return on investment. Multinationals have a terrible envronmental impact but the messaging is all about "Jobs" as if the majority of jobs are in these industries when they are not.&nbsp;<br><br>How do we craft a message that calls out the bad (need references) value we, as taxpayers, get on the supposed benefits of funding.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>CSIRO and other Australian research agency/companies are responsible for some of the worlds most used products and technologies. Our medical researchers have contributed significantly to many of the worlds breakthroughs in treatments, medicines and equipment but agencies like CSIRO are consistently under funded, undersold and devalued. We lose many of our best and brightest to overseas companies and institutions as ours are not well funded.&nbsp;<br>Universities do well at education but opportunites are limited due to costs of courses and only recently have we promoted STEM but at the cost of non-STEM subjects.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Maybe this is the message. Creative Industries are devalued and competing with STEM courses. STEM is "more important" for the future and jobs. Still mixed messages as they are pushing the idea that private enterprise is the answer to EVERY question. STEM = career while "Arts" is frivilous and not important. Only people with excess of time/resources can be involved. STEM produces results, things that can be counted, indicators that are easy to identify and report on. Arts are not seen the same way "How to you value art if it is purely subjective"<br>This stance devalues art and narrowlly defines "art" and therefore creative industries as a thing done for the sake of a thing that does not contribute to society.<br>This narrowminded view ignores that all the things we see and do have a creative influence from how we dress, what our houses look like, how our phones look and the way we interact with them. Politiicans would be out of a job if they didn't effectively campaign and these campaigns are driven in a large part by creatives who write the wors, create the content and market a message. If you work in a business then you probably use microsoft and apple products. These companies have thousands of creatives desiging interfaces, font types, reporting and data visulisations tools. Even the humble cheap keyboard on your desk has and athestic designed by an artist in marketing.&nbsp;<br><br>No company places creatives higher than Apple. This is a company that sells a simple monitor stand for $700 which is essential a piece of art, it has to be beautiful and create a need in their target market who are willing to pay for the artistry of a simple support device rathar than its value as a monitor stand.&nbsp;<br>People by iphones to look cool and be part of the cloud. Steve jobs (need to find refrences) cared just as much about the design as the engineering of products</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Narrators story: In the early days of coloinalism the 19th Century (pre 1900) most people didn't travel far, everything they needed was close by and everyone knew where everything was. Literacy was was low and signs were pictures, not words. Fine arts existed but they were restricted to the rich and wealthy whose patronage supported artists. An artist was not generally independent (need references to validate) and art was considered a luxury, not a necessity, after all, you couldn't eat art and you certainly could't use it to fight a war or feed the poor and hungry. This idea that art and artistic endeavor is a luxury, a nice to have, not a need still pervades the consciousness of the world today. We only have to look at Australia's recent focus on the importance of "STEM" and the shift in University funding (need references) which sees STEM subjects heavily subsidised while "the arts" subsidies are cut. Even the latest federal budget comes close to removing all future arts funding.&nbsp;<br><br>Now imagine a world without the arts. Casinos which generate large tax revenues would have no lights, no colour, no enticements. Newspapers would have no colour, no bold catchy typefaces. Shops would be simplistic, a simple sign in plain text with their name. Elections would be boring affairs with candidates looking and sounding the same. No flashy ads, no giant coloured billboards decrying the other parties faults, no shiny leaflets at polling stations.&nbsp;<br><br>Why? you might ask. Well they arts are everywhere. They pervade your life. From the design of the phone you may be watching this on to the simplistic but unmistakable political party colours, everyone of these things was designed, amde by and defined by art and artists.&nbsp;<br><br>Since the start of the industrial revoloution, business, governments, military, clubs, schools, activists have used arts and artist to sell a war bond, entertain the troops to boost morale, sell their fancy new product, define their "Brand", market their ideals.<br>Video pans over photos of photos of shops and businesses.<br><br>In australia, if you looking at anything political and you see blue you know its probably the Liberal party, red = labour, green = greens, yellow = united (palmer). These colours aren't picked out of a hat, they use colour theory and branding to evoke feelings and help cement them in the voters minds. All political parties use speach writers, marketing, psychology and many other professionals, all of the them artists in one way or another. Your marketing team uses graphic designers, videographers, writiers, photographers and many many other artists to define and sell your message. If you don't support arts, then there will be no one to design your campaigns, make tv or internet adds, take care of you social media, create your phamlets and billboards.&nbsp;<br><br>Imagine try to sell youself when all you have is a blank white page and the same standard font everyone else is using. Cut to a series of simple white pages with the political messages of 3 major parties.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The idea of a video is one aspect but given I am looking at reaching politicians how do i got about that. If I consider the use of social media to influence politicians do I need to consider aspects of supporting the video message with a well thought out supporting campaign via social media. Why not use tactics already proven by political lobbyists to help reach and sway politicians like the canadian Centennial Flame campaign ( McCurdy, P, 2019)&nbsp; to get the message to politicians?<br><br>Also consider using a targeted campaign to marginal members to take advantage of our current westminster political system where the Senate has 'the power to creat or block legislation (Prosser, B. and Denniss, R., 2015)&nbsp; and the system in place to elect senators allows for a greater chance that senator not part of a major party could win a seat ((Prosser, B. and Denniss, R., 2015)<br><br></div>]]></description>

Look for pictures of patrons bestowing largesse on artists<br><br>Moving to current pictures of famous places like times, square, las vegas, tokyo where the bright lights are all the same yellow and there is a single font in use and no colour.<br>Do the same with political advertisements, making them bland and same.<br><br>As we move and the story moves to what actaully happens show clips of war shows, war bond advertising and then business advertising from black and white to colour.<br><br>As we start hearing about political advertising in australia show examples of the marketing and advertisement of the major political parties with note to show the bold base brand colours.<br>Show paper, tv and social media advertising examples.<br><br>As we get to the end of the video as ask them to think about selling their message without artist have simplistic black and while advertisements for their campaigns.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>&nbsp;In reading Sheehan, M.J. ed., 2019. <em>Advocates and Persuaders</em>. Australian Scholarly Publishing.&nbsp;Specifically Advocacy and Persuasion: A 20th Century Australian Perspective on Lobbying. I am forming a view that I need to consider my video as a smaller part of what would be a larger campaign to lobby government for more arts funding. This would include linking with other prominent associations, univertisities, colleges, unions etc. There would be a large overarching strategy of which my video would be one part. Perhaps I could outline this and include some of the aspects that would be present in the larger campagin such as hashtages, social media messaging, links etc. I'd have to be careful of this though as I wouldn't be able to directly reference these other organisations. On a smaller scale, a simple message which highlihts the importance of the arts in real world should be able to stand alone but also be able to be incorporated as part of a larger strategy is needed with minor adjustments.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This one is a simple interesting take. I feel like this is one of those "Look how good we are!" videos. I've been to this exact location and seen both sides of 2 very successful campaigns for and against the mine. On one side are the miners who need jobs in the area and on the other are the farmers that point out the loss of productive topsoil that is lost to mining limiting the value and future use as cropping land for food. This video makes me think that perhaps I should be more selective in the "truth" by including and highlighting the emotional and human connection. There is scope to change my video from "Arts funding" to be more personal and local. I know people and business directly affected by the covid lockdowns and lack of support. I could use this to highlight how things like getting sports and venues open for the communities wellbeing is literally the same as support the arts because artists are key workers in these places. It would be hard for people to get out and be social without environements like clubs, bars, resturants and other venues. All places where artist are employed or where they services are needed, e.g. marketing, social media etc</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found it particularly interesting how this paper details the use of the westminster system of government yet modified to have a senate like the american systems. The power of the australian senate has over the implementation of legislation is interesting when considered in context with the election of half the senate at a time. Prosser and Denniss highlight the opportunities that can arise from the way the system works where you would normally expect the election of senators solely from the major parties, this is not always the case. This opens opportunities where marginal party members can win seats and therefore have a greater influence over legislation than would normally be expected. From my limited understanding, this would allow lobbying of marginal parties to take champion alternate policies in the hope they are elected and have some power to influence legislative outcomes. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This paper felt like a lesson in weaponising public sentiment for corporate greed. It is a great example of how corporations twist a message to suit their own needs. In this example they made a simple ecological change to covert a symbol to a more energy efficient seem like an attack by the government on Candaians and their country and identity. Ultimately this was done as part of a broader strategy to ensure perceptions of the oil and gas industries were positive and the governments negative at a time the industry felt attacked by the government. Despite despising the whole process, it does highlight the importance of sentiment and having people on your side. My video will need to ensure it doesn't alienate or attack the people creating policies as I ultimately need them to listen and agree to change. Attacking them will do nothing but playing to their needs, the need to win public support, may help sell my message. </div>]]></description>
